| Anderson Silva remorseful about behavior in Demian Maia match-up Anderson Silva remorseful about behavior in Demian Maia match-up : Five Ounces of Pain Quote:
n April 2010, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva entered the Octagon against Demian Maia on the heels of destroying Forrest Griffin at 205 pounds and was predicted to make quick work of his opponent. However, while Silva certainly could have put Maia away at any number of times, “The Spider” opted to play with Maia for the bulk of the bout instead of go in for the kill. The decision to do so drew a ton of criticism from fans and even angered UFC President Dana White to the point of threatening to release Silva in the event of any similar showings in the future.
Looking back on the matter, it appears the pound-for-pound great learned his lesson and to this day has no problem with any negativity associated with the unprofessional performance. Quote: |
“I think that was the only time in my life I had a misconduct,” explained Silva in an interview with TATAME. “We must always be changing with these attitudes. It’s a sport children, older people and younger [people] attend. For that we can earn respect and more fans, have to have that awareness.”
| Since the match-up with Maia, Silva has finished all five of the opponents he’s faced including four by way of strikes. His most recent dismantling of an adversary came last night at UFC 153 where he smashed Stephan Bonnar with essentially a single strike in the opening round of their headlining tilt.

I wasn't happy with his conduct against Bonnar but at least he didn't dance for 5 rounds.

Him and Damien looked real buddy buddy at the post fight press conference. They put their arms around each others shoulders multiple times.

He really should have turned that fight down if he had no intentions of actually fighting.

I used to be a huge Anderson Silva fan, but his antics started in the thales leites fight, then again in the forrest griffen fight. I stuck with him though. However he took it to another level in the Demian Maia fight&again acted like an ass against bonnar saturday night. The fact that he comes out at the start of the fight fight bows to his opponent in respect then during the fight proceeds to mock, goad&show his opponent a complete lack of respect during the fight is the reason he lost me as a fan.
And in the Maia fight not just disrespecting his opponent but disrespecting all the fans who paid hard earned money to tune in&in my case sit up til 4.30am in the morning to watch him completely turned me against Anderson, bowing to your opponent then acting like an ass&completely disrespecting them in the ring is hypocritical&smells of douchebaggery to me. He's not going to lose any sleep over losing one fan but it really disappoints me that he has chose to act this way as his star has rose. I really hope now the Jones vs Silva fight(which makes way more sense to me then the GSP/Silva fight)happens&Jonny Bones Jones puts an absolute beating on him to teach him(or remind him)some humility.

Infinite rep ^^^
But the ideal finish to Jones vs Silva would be them both getting run over by a bus... Just sayin.

Did u also think Muhammed Ali was disrespectful? Or Roy Jones Junior? Or Mayweather? Different sport I know but in essence they do the same thing, showmen who are elite at their craft.
Silva had awful PPV buy rates cause he was winning so easily, now people tune in, hoping to see him lose, as well as the fans who watch him cause he is the GOAT (IMO).
BTW, I also live watching Jon Jones, another elite athlete that finishes fights, who cares what they do in the ring, until they can find an opponent that can beat these elite fighters then they can do what the hell they like

Oh Boo Hoo imo. Its a combat sport not checkers. Sure the Maia fight wasn't the best, but if I remember correctly its not like Maia did much either. They both choose not to engage in eachothers strenghts, much like Werdum/AO, oh well shit happens.
Im going to go against the grain and say that I cant remember Silva actually being disrespectful ever. Some guys act like they've never seen Roy Jones toy with someone or A Hockey Player having a goalie crawling all over his crease. But im sure we all have.
As far as cursing goes, I dont understand how Hockey players can curse up and down before/during/after a fight, but during an actual fight there should be no swearing or showboating? BS if you ask me, I heard the ref tell Madadi "No Offensive Language" in the nights first bout.
Ive heard someone else say this, but "What about when a Football player jukes the final Dman then casually walks in for the TD?", Ill tell you what happens. Fans of that team cheer because it was a great play...fans of the other team get sour because they just got P'wned. Anyone see where im going here lol?
And nearly every single sport has some type "victory dance", so does MMA, so how come no one says anything about those being disrespectful... Just Because the match is over? That somehow makes rubbing a victory in your opponents face less disrespectful? Think about it.
Well how come a Hockey player can spin deke the shit out of someone making them fall on their ass, or a Football player can stop and make a Dman run into a table out of bounds, or a Soccer Player can Rainbow kick a ball, Or Roy Jones can put HIS hands down, or a Basketball player can put the ball through his opponents legs around his head then around his opponents back and then jam on him, And nothing gets said? Because MMA fans are the most finicky fans of any sport. Period.
If Fighter A quickly rips FighterBs head off, everyone is calling that it was stopped too soon and so and so deserves a rematch. If he losses any portion at all, people say his weakness has been exposed. If he plays with his opponents then finishes in devastating fashion, hes being disrespectfull. And thats obviously not just with Anderson but with every fighter, Its BS if you ask me.
If you dont want to get made a fool of, then dont go looking to fight the guy known for doing so lol. If you dont want to get cursed at, dont fight Nick or Nate. Pretty simple.
I mean honestly whats the definition of "disrespectfull during a fight" lol? Cursing/Shit talk/showboating should be allowed imo, its a fight, IMO Its classified as "showboating" and "mind games". Both are perfectly legal before and after a fight, sometimes actually encouraged, but its "looked down upon" if you do it during a fight lol?
Laying the fucking smackdown on someone and making them look like a fool isnt being disrespectfull. And if you're both choosing not to engage, and your opponent "disses" you, then so be it, your in a fight go kick his ass.
