Dana White has 'all the answers,' says Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen 'a fight people want to see' - MMAmania.com

A good portion of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans speculated the recently-announced match-up featuring Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones vs. former middleweight number one contender Chael Sonnen was a knee-jerk reaction to poor ratings for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) franchise.

WRONG!

Sorry, but those fans don't know what the [expletive] they're talking about. Neither does the Internet. That's according to UFC President Dana White, who tells Yahoo! Sports he has all the answers and the promotion knows what it's doing when it comes to matchmaking.

His words, not mine.

"This wasn't where I was going. But when this happened and Jones was going to be out for so long, it made sense. I understand completely [about Sonnen not having won a fight at light heavyweight], but it's a fight people want to see. That's what the word is, that TUF needs the help? People love to speculate and talk [expletive], but the truth of it is, they don't know what the [expletive] they're talking about. I have all the answers. The Internet does not. We built this company and we know what we're doing. That had nothing to do with it."

"Jones vs. Sonnen" has nothing to do with putrid TUF ratings. But I'm sure White won't mind the nice little boost they'll get when "Bones" and "The American Gangster" face off as coaches on season 17, which will culminate in a pay-per-view (PPV) title fight on April 27 at a location to be named.

In fact, we may not need to speculate any longer.

You think this fight was made to combat things like Mayweather vs Manny? I know it's not on the same level but if you hear people wanting a fight, you make the fight, then you can say that the UFC makes fights people want to see.

And I know most don't hear on these boards but the 30 or so of us are a small drop in the ocean that is MMA fans.

...The UFC better make this a strong card and not make it like the last ppv they were trying to make with Jones (with Ellenberger-Hieron co headlining), because this main event is going to be extremely one sided and probably pretty quick. If the rest of the card isn't strong, all of the people who buy the card (which might be alot) might be pretty unhappy with the overall product.

Wrong, people want to see Chael work his way up to a title shot.

The plan is obvious, the Jones hate is at an all time after the 151 ordeal. They're banking on Sonnen's mouth making him the bad guy and help Jones go over with the fans. I still doubt it, Jones personality is everywhere. He's "humble" then he's "cocky", then he's a "warrior" who respects all his opponents and etc. He's inconsistent, most ppl already think he's fake so they probably wont buy him playing up to the camera. Unless Chael does something outrageous to where he crosses his boundaries (if he has any).

Fight will most likely suck but who knows. Jones doesn't react well to pressure and that's what Sonnen does.

dana is about as full of shit as chael sonnen. nothing that the bald oaf says is believable. and he is about as much as a hypocrite as.....well, i'll just quit my fighter bashing there.

the first thing that i had thought of when i heard the dreadful news of the "pathetic" match up was that A) tuf is failing so hard this will give it a boost in dana's eyes, and B) ppv numbers are getting really bad, so this is he and zuffa's way to bring life back into the two. .......if dana tries to deny that the fight is not taking place because of those two reasons, he is just completely insain at this point.

and what fans?! it is an overwhelming majority of folks pissed off about this, compared to the folks that want people to "stop fucking whining and just enjoy the entertainment"

it is clear that there are two types of fans here. fans that are rooting for the sport, and fans that are rooting for just pure entertainment.

Fans want to see Jones vs. Silva/ Hendo vs. Jones/ Jones vs. Cromier/ Jones vs. a good HW.

Dana should just be honest and admit that the only reason this fight is happening is because it's a money maker for Zuffa. Between this fight and Overeem being guaranteed a title shot upon his return he's pretty much sold out the legitimacy of rankings and earning a title shot.

Worse part is that it would have been interesting to se if Chael could have earned his way to a title shot. Matches against Machida, Rashad and Shogun all had potential to be really interesting fights. Now he gets a title shot and going with the consensus that he loses he becomes a non factor in the division for a while after.
