Renan Barao won't defend interim title, will wait for Dominick Cruz - Bloody Elbow

UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao has been on the sidelines since his July 21st win over Urijah Faber to claim the belt. Dominick Cruz, the holder of the regular belt, is expected to be on the shelf for a while longer while he rehabs his torn ACL, and it was expected that Barao would probably defend his interim title at least once while Cruz was still out. But in an interview with UOL, Barao's coach Andre Pederneiras dismissed that notion and says Barao will wait for Cruz to return for a title unification match:

"He just won the title, just fought. We will wait. Look how long the wait was for Condit and GSP to unify the belt?"

Then what the fuck was the point of even having an interim title? Condit pulled this same shit.

Man I'm really getting tired of this "I'll Wait" Bullshit. To answer your question Anchor, not because of winning lately or a shortage of chance, its probably fucking Faber still sitting around in that top 5 since its not extremely deep, really sad. But they need to take more control of this with this interim shit, they aren't the true champs of the division, they should be fighting when another contender arises.

You know what we need is an interim interim champ! If that guy refuses to defend until he can face the interim champ then we will just make an interim interim interim champ. Eventually everybody will have a belt, and then they can market every fight as champion versus champion. Maybe since everybody will have a title, and the UFC will get the spectacle they want, we will get a coherent rankings system, and fights that make sense.

These rankings were off the top of my head. I didn't put alot of thought into them, so please don't criticize.

Agreed. On both the "I'll Wait" thing and the Faber thing.

The thing I don't get is that while a fighter only has one brand and thus might want to wait to get the best chance for endorsement deals (why risk it before Cruz comes back); the UFC has the ability to build up new stars. And yet they keep doing things like repeat shots for Faber.

Well played, sir, well played. Though I do think he's at least one fight off from a title shot (at least...) given the recent loss to Barao and one of two wins being over Page who's a long losing streak.

I guess McDonald makes the most sense to me. Do you put Easton above him or was that just the order in which you remembered the names?

Holy fuck this is funny shit. It's a little bit sad though because it makes just about as much sense as having an interim champion not bother defending the title.
