Jon Jones Reveals TUF 17 Coaching Staff Includes Former UFC Champ Frank Mir

Filming for The Ultimate Fighter 17: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen got underway this week. UFC light heavyweight champion and TUF 17 coach Jon Jones, during a Metro PCS chat on Tuesday night, finally revealed his coaching staff to the world.

Jones’ coaching staff on TUF, which may come as a surprise to many, is short on talent from his Team Jackson-Winkeljohn coaches in Albuquerque, N.M.

One of the biggest surprises, however, is the inclusion of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

“I have a great training staff,” Jones proclaimed. “I have Frank Mir; he’s going to be our jiu-jitsu coach.”

Besides his jiu-jitsu expertise, Mir also brings some TUF experience to the table for Team Jones. Mir coached opposite Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira during season eight of The Ultimate Fighter.

“I have Stonehorse Goeman, who is my original Muay Thai teacher,” Jones continued. “I have John Woods from Las Vegas (on Greg Jackson’s suggestion); the guy is a well rounded martial artist, a little bit of jiu-jitsu, a little bit of everything. He’s going to be one of our overseeing type coaches. Then I have Bubba Jenkins. The guy is an NCAA national wrestling champion.”

Jones doesn't hate Chael Sonnen anymore, now thinks he's 'classy'

"[Chael's] actually, he's not too bad. I thought it was going to be all trash-talk, but he's actually being pretty decent and pretty classy. So, I think it's going to make for a great show."

"I actually don't hate Chael anymore. He's actually turning out to be OK. I'm not sure if he's setting me up to really hate him-but right now, he's being a pretty decent human."

Chael Sonnen hints at rift with Dan Henderson following 'TUF 17' fallout

"I haven't spoken to him, but, um – I haven't spoken to Dan," Sonnen said Tuesday. "We'll leave it at that."

so basically he's getting others to do his work for him, dana pays him to be a coach on TUF but he just stands there in his espn the body pose while people who need free tv exposure like mir tag along and do the actual coaching, i dont like all these other coaches being involved seems like jones doesnt want anyone inspecting his skills

Are you mental? Name another coach that didn't bring a variety of other coaches with him. That's some serious reaching you are doing man.... Even GSP brought in a plethora of big name coaches.

I was actually surprised by Mir as a choice, figured Jones would avoid potential match ups from getting to close... And moving to HW, Mir would be a great first victim.. If Jones can avoid the subs.

Really stretching it to find more ways to hate on Jones. Every coach on the TUF brings in assistant coaches like this and more then a few have heavily relied on them.

I'm wondering if Jones has actually reached out to Mir to improve his sub defense. Mir would be a good teacher for him being a bigger and stronger person could learn a lot from him.
