UFC on FOX 5's Rory MacDonald says VADA testing 'annoying' but doable

Quote:
As one of the guinea pigs for expanded and third-party drug testing in MMA, Rory MacDonald admits the process is a bit annoying.

But, he said, it's doable.

MacDonald (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), of course, agreed to undergo Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) testing with opponent B.J. Penn (16-8-2 MMA, 12-7-2 UFC), whom he meets next month in a featured welterweight bout at UFC on FOX 5.

MacDonald discussed the process today on "Training Day: Inside Tristar Gym Live." The live FUEL TV special gave viewers an inside look at the Canadian gym, where MacDonald, teammate/UFC 154 headliner Georges St-Pierre, and other Tristar members are preparing for upcoming fights.

UFC on FOX 5 takes place Dec. 8 at Seattle's KeyArena, and MacDonald vs. Penn is one of the network-televised bouts.

"It already started," MacDonald said of the VADA testing. "My first test was last week. ... I got a random knock on the door. They did the test. So from here to the fight, it's just random testing."

And the process itself?

"It's pretty annoying," he said. "I don't like getting woken up in the morning. It threw my routine off. I didn't expect it. I forget about it, to tell you the truth. It was a bit annoying that day, but if it only happens a few times, a couple times, I can deal with it."
