| Jake Shields “Probably” Going Back To Welterweight Division For His Next Fight Jake Shields “Probably” Going Back To Welterweight Division For His Next Fight Quote:
Despite currently serving a suspension, Shields is open to discussing what the future holds and the 33-year-old believes after just one-fight in the UFC at middleweight, a return to 170-pounds may be in order for his next fight.
“I’m bouncing around quite a bit [between weight classes],” Shields told MMA Fight Corner. “But probably back to welterweight, but nothing is 100 percent yet, just staying up is so much work I have to eat so much and just my weight naturally tends to go down closer to ’70. So we’ll see, nothing’s 100 percent at the moment though.”
The Cesar Gracie trained fighter has found success at both middleweight and welterweight throughout his career. Shields was the Strikeforce middleweight champion until he vacated the belt to move to the UFC and within two-fights of his arrival to the organization, fought for the UFC welterweight championship.
Details on Shields’ failed drug test have not been revealed by the Colorado Athletic Commission, however, it is known the suspension is for six-months and is proactive from the day of the Aug. 11 fight.
Shields is not willing to discuss the reasoning behind his suspension other than calling it a “mistake”. He did, though, say he plans to have a fight in early 2013.
“I’ll be back in February,” Shields said of his return to the Octagon. “I already dealt with the commission, yeah I’ll be back in February so everything – everything was resolved. Obviously an unfortunate issue but it was resolved, I made a mistake and ready to move forwards and will be fighting again in February.” | Jake Shields "Probably" Going Back To Welterweight Division For His Next Fight - FightCove.com |

I'm a tad concerned about some of this apparent indecisiveness regarding Jake's future, he really seems in limbo with any proper direction. Since he lost his father, I think it has been a really tough road for Jake inside(and obviously outside) the cage and while I'm not a fan of his style, he's a helluva grappler and I really just wish him the best upon his return.

Truthfully, I haven't been too impressed with Shields since he came into UFC, thought he looked his best when he was a Middleweight. Although I suppose its hard to look really good when he takes a nap on opponents...

I can understand him being lost. You may think it ridiculous but really he's not getting a title in either division anytime soon. I feel he's like Chael in the sense that the belt defines the fighter. I can't see him really getting a great foot hold in either division to get him to fight for the belt anytime soon.

Does him being gay bother you? To have a gay man that close to you? With his arm around you?
What does that say about you?
