TMZ broke the story, which has since been confirmed byMMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.
Sources say Strikeforce, which airs on Showtime, will be running its last event in January before folding up shop for good.

So why exactly did Showtime stop Derek Brunson from going on the next season of the Ultimate Fighter? It's not like they really need him for their last "supershow". Seems pretty sketchy business to me.

So the question now is, will Showtime still go forward with an MMA brand and which fighters have contracts with Showtime itself, as opposed to Strikeforce(which I believe some do)...???

Well this is great news. Finally, the few great fighters under the Strikeforce banner can get some real competition.
One last big show eh? I wonder what will happen to screw it up.

Good news for fans. This whole thing got ugly a while ago. It sucked to see good fighters get caught in the middle of it.

Kind of sad really. For a while there, with the exception of the Shields-Hendo event, every Strikeforce show was a great show.

Maybe Zuffa is tired of dealing with Showtime's crap regarding fighters' affiliation. Maybe ending Strikefarce will just be the easiest way to transition fighters over to the UFC. Purely subjective, speculation on my part...

I think this could ultimately end up being a good thing. I know they're under contract with Zuffa but the UFC won't be able to put on enough shows to accommodate all the fighters that had been in Strikeforce, at least IMO...which means they'll probably take the cream of the crop and let the rest go.
So, in theory, will get even better fights under the UFC banner, and at the same time Bellator will be able to pick up some really solid fighters for their shows on Spike that they wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. At least that's how I hope it turns out.

El Nino to UFC is a good thing.
Although, I Wonder what happens if Nate Diaz wins the title?
