This is really just sad.
Even if it's just posturing and he's just trying to pressure dana into pressuring Georges, it's really unfortunate. I do not see Anderson fighting at MW again, unless it's Bisping.
If he's genuine about not fighting--and he's gone back on his word so many times, I can't really take him at face value--I don't think they should bother with an interim, just strip him and get it over with. An interim belt is worthless, but it at least has a place when the champ comes back to defend and/or unify the titles. I honestly don't see Anderson as having any interest in that. 2 fights = 2 superfights = a swimming pool full of real and centavos for him to splash around in.
Really, they should strip him, but they won't, because a standing champion is a better draw for a superfight...but it's weak, all the way around.

This is coming from the same guy who said who wouldn't fight again in '12, and then goes up in weight to fight Bonnar?!?!? And now he is writing off most of a year that hasn't even started yet?
Personally, I am tired of Silva's nonsense. And it seems to be something new every day. He's not in his early 20s anymore...........a year off at his age could make for the end of his career - and maybe that is what he truly wants. I would love nothing more than to see him lose.
No one will dispute how great a fighter he is, but he has turned into a prima donna as of late. For me, it is starting to overshadow his fighting.

This is just absolute bullshit. If he's refusing to fight for a solid year, I say screw the interim championship and make him vacate the title entirely. The rest of the division shouldn't have to sit around with their thumbs up their asses waiting their shot.
This is not the attitude that a champion should have.

Cant really say shit about this. Im not happy with his decision and a big part of me just think he is posturing to get a better deal from Dana. I trust that Silva knows what is best for his career, even if I don't agree with his decision. He should just relinquish the belt like he hinted at before if he is really not fighting for over a year...

Silva needs to be told there's a title defense by april, or he's stripped of his belt.

If indeed he is taking the year off then the UFC needs to get down to the bottom of his intentions. If he has no intention of defending the middleweight title going forward then they need to talk him into publicly vacating it or set up an interm title (Even though, I despise them). They already have the brackets set up for a mini tournament, just need to make it official. The optics of all scenarios are terrible but stripping him, I feel, is the worst. No matter what, the new middleweight champion is going to be considered the most neutered paper champion in the history of the UFC having not beaten Silva for it. Stripping the greatest fighter in the history the UFC would be a terrible business decision and will serve to only weaken the perception of the new champ, Silva and the UFC. Nobody wins in that scenario.
Here's some hypothetical thoughts for you guys: If they create an interm middleweight champion does Chael get an automatic title shot after losing to Jones?
