Vinicius Queiroz's manager thinks the referee may have contributed to the fighter's loss to Alexander Volkov at this past Friday's Bellator 80.

An email protesting the officiating today was forwarded to MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com).

"[Referee James] Warring could have contributed to [and] altered the result of the fight after he ordered the fighters to rise up with [after] only 15 seconds [on the ground] … in a moment that was favorable for Vincius," manager Josef Borges wrote to the Florida State Boxing Commission, which oversaw the event at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Volkov's punches dropped Queiroz on multiple occasions before he stopped him with a flurry at the 4:59 mark of the second round. The fight aired on MTV2.

Queiroz got a takedown in the first round, but was quickly warned by Warring for using his head to pressure Volkov into releasing his arms. Just prior to the stoppage, he earned another takedown, but was stood up by the referee with little time to improve his position.

"MMA means also fighting on the ground," Borges said in his email to the commission. "Getting a takedown and dominating the ground also adds points to the fight."

Volkov (18-3 MMA, 2-0 BFC) advanced to the finals of the Bellator Season 7 heavyweight tournament, where he will meet Richard Hale at Bellator 84.

Borges did not say he would appeal the bout's result. The FSBC, which is overseen by the state's Department of Business and Professional Regulation, was unavailable for comment at the time of this writing. Bellator officials also were unavailable.

"I would like you to register my protest and I hope that Mr. James Warring will update [his] knowledge of the rules of MMA," Borges wrote.

Queiroz (6-3 MMA, 1-1 BFC) signed with Bellator in early 2012 after a two-year layoff from the sport, which came after he tested positive for steroids post-UFC 120 and was released from the promotion. He notched a come-from-behind submission win over Mark Holata at Bellator 75 to reach the semifinals against Volkov.

He damn well should. That dumb-as-dogshit referee was threatening to stand people up from the moment they hit the ground. Spartan got rocked, scored a desperately needed takedown and landed in top position. Dumb fuck ref stood it up in no more than 3 seconds, literally. Piss-poor officiating definitely factored into that outcome. Damn I'm getting worked up just thinking about it.

I agree. That dude needs to learn what an mma fight is. It is not boxing or judo. When a fight hits the ground give them some time to work. Holy shit that was horrible.

this is one of the reasons I am losing faith in MMA as a sport (besides the obvious over saturation), inconsistent judging and LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY.
