Look at their recent outings; Kongo has actually fought tougher guys and done better when fighting similar opponents. I think in the very recent past Struve has looked better and would be the favorite, but Kongo is still a cagey veteran and hardly a step down in competition.

Still, I agree with most that Hunt is a more interesting fight. But Kongo/Struve is not a bad fight at all.

Well let's see. Stefan is two wins, possibly even one big win away from a title shot hypothetically. Kongo isn't top 10, maybe top 15 and that may be stretching it. Stefan is top 10 without a doubt. So if he's fighting a fighter who is ranked lower than he is (or higher depending on how you read it) then that is a step back.

I wouldn't really put Struve that much farther ahead in the rankings I certainly wouldn't consider a Kongo a huge step down in the rankings. Based on Struves more recent opponents since he went on this streak I would say Kongo is certainly a step up.

So you are trying to tell me Kongo is a step up for Struve?

Oh lordy Jesus.

Kongo is not a step up, imo.

Oh lordy Jesus.
If you read what I said which you obviously didn't I said he is a step up from Struve's recent competition. Also I clearly said he is not a "huge step down" like you implied.

Perhaps before we get to the lordy jesus comments you can re-read what I said.

Also because you brought it up earlier several of the more recent heavyweight rankings have Struve and Kongo both it the top 10-15 area so again not really that far apart.

I'm with Rise on this. I do think that Struve and Kongo are on very different trajectories right now, but that their actual standings aren't that far off.

I actually reacted similarly to you, SE, when I saw the article. But I think I'm mostly reacting to the fact that I thought Struve earned a step up.

IMO the main problem is that Struve earned a step up in competition by beating Stipe whereas Kongo didn't impress against an unranked Jordan. But, beyond that, their recent competition is fairly similar. They both beat Barry, I'm not sure how I put Peewee in this, though Struve has a win over Lavaar which I put higher than Kongo's win over Meathead but only very slightly. Before that, both have some solid wins and then losses to ranked competition.

Why wouldn't you rather see Hunt vs Roy Nelson?

I get it. Kinda like when Munoz fought Weidman.
