Was Silva really ever that punished in the fight to actually quit? It's not like Sonnen is known for devastating ground and pound. From what I recall Sonnen really just dominated the fight from a technical and control point of view the damage was pretty minimal certainly not in the realm of where someone would be possibly expected to quit. I'd say Silva knew from pretty early on that the sub openings were there as well so the possibility of winning wasn't out of the question.

Not that I'm questioning Silva's heart but that match wasn't a really a full test of someone's will to continue fight.

He was in severe pain from his injury... not because of what Sonnen did to him... Any physical activity with a injured rib would hurt... let alone a MMA fight.

There have been a handful of interviews, all of which have the usual bad MMA journalism inflammatory title but show Weidman being pretty respectful. He's a LOT more like Ben Henderson than Chael Sonnen.

How many times have we covered this?!

Here's the timeline:

1. Chris Weidman declared #1 contender after Munoz fight

2. Anderson Silva says he's not fighting again in 2012, Weidman has to wait: (Anderson Silva won)

3. Weidman opts to heal some injuries and take time off. Also says about Silva "That's fine. He's the best of all time; he can choose who he wants to fight." (Weidman wants to heal nagging injuries, fight winner of UFC 152's Bisping vs. Stann | MMAjunkie.com)

4. Anderson agrees to and fights Bonnar.

5. Anderson publicly declares (in multiple settings) that he is not willing to fight Weidman (Anderson Silva says he won)

6. Weidman then responds with the shockingly brazen line "Then for the champion – who is the man, I have nothing bad to say about him – kind of dodging me a little bit. It’s tough" (Chris Weidman Says Anderson Silva is Dodging Him; Does it Mean GSP Superfight is Coming? | MMAWeekly.com)

7. Silva spends time going after GSP fight and declares that he won't fight again until the end of 2013 (Anderson Silva won't fight again until the end of 2013 - LowKickMMA)


Anyone who follows the timeline and interviews, and who comes to the belief that Weidman is a loudmouth or that Anderson hasn't actively avoided defending the belt against Weidman (especially as he publicly stated that he refuses to do so) is delusional.

He didn't need to be. As soon as Weidman beat Munoz, soares started a whinefest. And then, in a rare moment of self-disclosure; Anderson himself came out and stated he has no intention of fighting Weidman, that he's not a fool, that he's old, etc.

You can try to play semantics all you want, but what you have is a champion who has gone on record stating that he has no intention of fighting the #1 contender. Anyway you try to spin that, it's just fucking sad.

I anticipate more revisionist history coming from you soon. I'm going to ask you to get your facts straight before you post about Weidman/Silva again, because you've already tried my patience with your utterly weak bullshit regarding Henderson's revoked title shot back in the day.

Sorry but I don't remember any type of medical suspension for Silva after ufc 117 due to "bruised ribs". He clearly stated he's not dumb , he wont face Weidman because he's an "oldie".

Sad part is, Silva would probably destroy Weidman but he doesn't have enough heart to face a relevant contender. He bitched and moaned about the Hendo and Marquardt rematches, we all know how hard he protested the Sonnen rematch and now he's straight up admitting he wont fight Weidman.
