You do realize that I am a fan of MMA, right?? Why should I stop watching it? Only because the president is an asshole?
I watch MMA because of the fighters, because of the sport, not because of fucking Dana White.
It is like those kind of comments made in 2008 when there were problems between China and Tibet, and a lot of people were saying "As a sign of protest, we should not watch the Olympics!!". What a stupidity!
Same thing here. I should not watch the sport I like only because I do not like the president?? Quote: |
You are starting to whine more than some admins here in regards to UFC/DW.
| Whatever you say. I do not know what you are doing here, there is a thread where people are bashing a black fighter, so run and defend him. Quote: |

I love Dana White. I think he shits apple pies. Everytime he takes a piss a rainbow comes out. I thank GOD he is not another tight ass in a suit with zero charisma.
They should throw him on the front cover of a Wheaties box and I will be the 1st one in line at Ingles.

Didnt anyone honestly believe SF was doing good pre-Zuffa?
The way I remember it was Scott Coker not having anything under control.
He let his "HW Champ" Alistair Overeem fight outside the organization, going 2.5 years without defending it, only to come back and defend it against Brett Rogers, who was coming off a devastating KO loss to Fedor.
He scheduled a HW tourney, that took over a year to complete, with so much drama along the way.
He let M-1 Global abuse him, re-negotiating after every Fedor fight. It was this
merger that possibly led to SF being bought out by Zuffa.
SF was a good organization, great roster, put on some good events, but still had holes in the way it was being run. Sure, the Zuffa buy out made it worse, but it did allow some great fighters to cross over to UFC, and hopefully the rest of the roster in the coming months. It would be great to have some of the UFC divisions fill out even more.

At this point, what I'm just looking foward to is the potential talent that UFC could load up on. There are a bunch of SF WWs and LWs who I'd love to see get onto ZUFFA cards. Some complain about the dilution of the cards due to the number of events and maybe too many prelim bouts with maybe not UFC-caliber fighters and TUF rejects, but I think the moment some of the following names get the "call-up" we'll be looking at a big jump up in figher and matchup quality in those "middle-of-the-road" bouts.
LWs such as Masvidal, Green, Hirota, Ricehouse, Wilcox, Terry, Evangelista, Fodor, Duarte, Flagg, Couture, Thomson, Healy and obviously Gil would beef up the already extremely stacked roster.
WWs such as High, T-Wood, Mein, Saffiedine, Bowling, Voelker, Mulhern, Burrell, Misaki, Santiago and Nate.....jeez that's alot of talent to beef up the middle of the WW division.

The way I remember it was Scott Coker not having anything under control. | Coker put on great fight cards, with the exception of not having control over his champions. It wasn't just Alistair.
The issues with the bigger names on his roster became worse before zuffa bought it, but it was easily the second-best org out there at the time, and was still putting out killer shows, even if they didn't have name recognition. Quote: |
He scheduled a HW tourney, that took over a year to complete, with so much drama along the way.
| zuffa bought SF between the quarter-and semi- final rounds of the tourney. The gross bulk of the drama was a direct result of that purchase.
while I would have preferred a one-night two-round tourney [the only type of one-nighter that is getting licensed under unified rules stateside] it wasn't in the business plan. The idea was to gradually build tension and increase name-recognition over the year. When Fedor got upset by Bigfoot, it did exactly that...and then zuffa stepped in a month later.
Part of me thinks that timing was to ensure that Fedor wasn't going to be permitted to re-enter the tourney as an alternate. I wouldn't have been in favor of it--even as a Fedor fan--but I'm sure Coker would have done it in the later stages.
But over all, it wasn't as bad of an idea as, say, pumping tons of dough into TUF and trying to make it work on a Friday night. Quote: |

| I haven't heard that, and don't think it's accurate. Quote: |

| You could say the same thing about the UFC: it's a good organization, it's got a great roster, some of the events it puts on are good, but it still has holes in the way it's being run.
Strikeforce could have been great. The UFC could be greater than it currently is.
If zuffa wanted it to work--and I stand by my comment that they wanted it to fail slowly--they would have immediately replaced Coker with someone who had the business savvy to make it work as an independent org, and restructure diva contracts immediately with an understanding that if fighters worked hard in SF, they'd be rewarded with better contracts down the road, either in SF or in the UFC if they graduated from a feeder org. If they refused to play ball--as M1 and Fedor were likely to do--they'd be blackballed from the two biggest orgs upon completion of their contract. Above all, zuffa should have kept dana away from it and had him focus entirely on the UFC, and not engage in grudge-fucking with Showtime.
But they didn't. They did everything they could to enable Coker to fail, with some assistance from dana and by raping his roster. They gave SF exactly enough rope to hang itself slowly.
It's unfortunate, but that's what happened. Quote: |

| If you like diversity--in MMA if not in life--you wouldn't be in favor of one big org holding all the best fighters. Zuffa has already had virtually all the best fighters from SF for over a year now--has the quality of their cards gone up this year as a result?
