UFC President Dana White appeared on the UFC 154 post-fight show to talk about the main event of Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Condit and how St. Pierre looked upon his return to the cage following an 18 month lay off.
The possible upcoming negotiations for an Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre super fight were also discussed. Check out the highlights and video below:
How White thinked GSP looked tonight: "He looked great. Condit is a tough guy and had his moments. I believe in ring rust, and after an 18 month layoff, GSP looked good. He was tired in the fifth round. But his hands looked good and his takedowns looked good. Condit is a tall order to come back to from 18 months off."
White on if there will be an epic negotiation with Anderson Silva and GSP to make the fight happe: "I don't think it'll be an epic negotiation period. Both of these guys are under contract. We'll sit down with Anderson probably in the two weeks, and then we'll sit down with GSP."
White on Johny Hendricks' status: "He looked awesome. There're a lot of guys in line for title fights at 170 and 185. But we're trying to make a super fight happen. We'll see how it goes. We're trying to determine the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. It's a big fight, people want to see it and we want to see it. But maybe Georges St-Pierre won't want to do it, but I don't see that happening. Johny Hendricks will keep fighting. He wants to keep making money."
"We're trying to determine the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.... by having guys from different weight classes fight"
Am I the only one who finds that kind of retarded? Unless guys are physically P4P the same, isn't the discussion totally hypothetically?
"Let's settle the P4P debate by having a guy who's 6'2, 205lbs, fight a guy who's 5'10, 185lbs"

dana has never, ever, made an accurate statement regarding p4p. He's an idiot.

So if Dana wants to settle the #1 p4p fighter in the world than does that mean about a year ago he'd want to pair up Anderson Silva vs Frankie Edgar? After all he thought Silva and Edgar were #1 and #2.
Pound for pound always has been a stupid concept. If you took 2 fighters, and tried to figure out what would happen if they were the same size it wouldn't figure anything out. I assume you would want them to meet in the middle, but no matter what class you put them into it would change what makes them great. If you put weight on a smaller fighter he gains strength, and loses speed, and the opposites are true if you take size away from a bigger fighter. If you do these things then you don't even have the same fighters you started out with. Would JDS be great, and have devastating power if he got zapped down to 155? Would Edgar be so quick if he reemed up to heavyweight? You can't change something that screws with a fighter's calling card, and then still consider them the same fighter.
If they call it like it is, it's just asking who is a better fighter GSP or Silva. Of course it leans towards Silva because he's bigger, but not to an extent where the fight is a total mismatch.

It's a really tough call. Anderson Silva is such a big guy. He fights at 185, but he walks around at like 215-220, or even more. He's a tall, strong guy. I know GSP walks around about 20 pounds heavier, around the 190 area, but still, it would have to be at a catch weight, whatever they agree on. It doesn't change the fact that Anderson is still such a naturally bigger person, and that's going to have a huge effect, I think. The last time these type of differentials were seen in the UFC was when there were no weight classes. In that regard, I think Anderson will have the advantage.

Dana White's idea of P4P is all based off PPV buys and how marketable a fight is.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet but WE AlREADY HAVE A P4P MATCHUP IN THE WORKS.
It's happening at UFC 156 between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar. These guys are 2 of the top 5 P4P fighters currently. They are more closer in weight than any other 2 p4p champs and IMO between the 2, they could own 3 diff divisions if they choose to (BW, FW, LW).
And let's not forget we had another matchup between 2 of the all time greatest p4P fighters ever between Fedor and Hendo.
I don't mind a Silva and GSP fight but I would hate to see one of the fighters (GSP) being forced into a matchup because the UFC and the entire Anderson Silva entourage want to make some serious bank.

Great point. Everyone was clamoring for this fight, even Dana, and now that it's set,... crickets.
