Same with other situations... The terms "ducking" and "scared" are thrown around far too often now days in MMA. Quote:

Good one... because Boxing has been far more corrupt than MMA for decades now.

In boxing, if a champion refuses to challenge the #1 contender, he is stripped of his title.
The right thing would be for a champion to step down if he wants to call out his own fights. | HOnestly, what would be the difference in GSP's payday by fighting Hendricks as opposed to Diaz? If the Fight takes place in Canada, the PPV numbers would still top 1million either way. His sponsership and base salary would remain consistent. The difference in maybe 100k-200k in ppv numbers would alter his ppv cut by slim margin. So I dont see it anything money wise.
Hendricks, while a great wrestler and one punch knockout power, wouldnt give GSP as much trouble as people think. Koscheck has the same skills as Hendricks and GSP had no problem against him. Plus Koscheck found a way to not get caught by Johnny's Left hand and won the fight in most people's mind, and probably would have towards the judges if Kos actually fought smart instead of with his ego. GSP is smart fighter and I think he would beat Hendricks.
I believe the answer is Option C. Nick Diaz trashed GSP, and he took offense to it. He wants to prove he can make Diaz eat his words and make him cry again post fight.

wow, what a sh*t move on GSP's part. Offically, UFC belts mean nothing anymore. Its as much of a popularity contest as pro wrestling now, and just as meaningless.

GSP absolutely is ducking... his responsibilities as champ.
I just lost a ton of respect for him. Everyone wants to make more money, but there are plenty of negotiations to be had other than picking your fights. Champs shouldn't do that.

oh and the UFC thinks that way too... Money? plz... Whats that to them. | Translation of a typical Rampage9712 post:

This is bullshit, Hendricks earned that title fight.
Zuffa's playing with fire and might get burned. Imagine if Diaz wins by TKOing Georges, and then the fight gets ruled a No Contest because Nick tests positive for weed.
Obviously, Nick is a bigger draw than Johnny Hendricks, but Zuffa's really getting greedy by making this fight now--why not just have Nick fight the winner of Johnny vs GSP. The only rationale I can think of is that Nick is obviously a loose cannon, and might do something that would jeopardize a future GSP match up down the line. But if that's the case, do they really want him holding their WW belt? WTF.
EDIT: I like Diaz, but can't understand why Zuffa would promote him (a huge liability, and a guy who hasn't fought in a year) over a guy like Hendricks who's been fighting (and finishing) top notch competition in that time.

I have wanted to see GSP/Diaz for years. GSP/Hendricks I have only wanted to see for a few months now. Both will happen eventually, and I agree that Hendricks is the #1, but so badly want to see Diaz/GSP.
