I don't think he held back at all. That would be a stupid thing to do with someone like BJ and Rory is not stupid at all. He's definitely a very smart fighter like GSP.
BJ needs to get out of the WW division and drop down to LW.

i think rory doesnt have a killer instinct. some people have it and some people dont, rory may just be one of those people who dont. Does it make him less of a fighter? of course not, a win is a win even if he doesnt finish the fight.

Rory was trying to finish Penn and gassed. I don't think his body is built for 170 lbs and going through a 5 round fight.
Was pretty interesting watching Penn give up free shots to his face just to cover his body, he even had one knee up just to cover his body at one point. I said 2 weeks ago "Penn's body is like all other fighters jaws" and said that body shots were the key to beating BJ. Ive never made a single good post on these boards though!

If I felt you were a detriment, I would have addressed it already. I haven't really paid any attention to you until recently you're on 80% of the threads saying this guy is a nuthugger and things that don't add to the board. But this post had constructive points, and was thus different from the bulk of those.

Rory clearly showed Penn mercy in the 3rd round. At some point he began talking to BJ in the cage. After that he held him against the fence I believe 3 times, doing absolutely no damage.
I think he didn't want to hurt him anymore. He said many times that Penn is/was his idol.

Rory is being talked about alot more than usual. The dancing somewhat worked. Any press is good press.
Perhaps in some way Rory deep down did not want Penn to retire after a severe beatdown?

i actually see where youre coming from OP and thought a similar thing... it was the end of the second round when Rory had BJ really hurt at the end of the round while BJ was hunched over against the cage... (this is from memory not 2nd watch)Rory landed a really nice body hook that crumpled BJ after he was already hurt and kind of laid off the pressure after he was really hurt and could have pressed hard at the beginning of the 3rd but he didnt
idk if he really let off, gassed, or just didnt want to get caught but i dont think he had the same mentality in the last round then the first 2

I think Rory just coasted. He was way up on the scorecards, and while it wasn't that noticeable he did get punched in the face a few times once BJ recovered from the body shots.
Like I said in previous posts, I think Rory has shown he may have a tendency to fade after the 2nd round. He definitely needs more fights though to really make a good judgment on it.
