Just my opinion and I'm a BJJ guy, but I don't like the style matchup for Davis, even though he's thoroughly skilled in subs himself, Vinny is on a level almost entirely by himself at 205, with maybe Cruz and Drysdale in his company(within the MMA BJJ game)

You also gotta keep in mind, when looking at Vinny taking the fight on short-notice, he'd have to cancel Christmas and come down in weight, as he's an extremely big LHW. I don't think he could've made it in time.
How does it end up on the ground? I know we see Phil go for takedowns in almost every fight, but not to the extent of someone like Sonnen or Askren... Davis has shown that he doesnt mind standup up and trading.... let alone against someone like Vinny whose standup is questionable and his BJJ so overwhelming...

For me, it ends up on the ground if the clinch gets initiated and if Davis is unable to maintain distance. Vinny is a massive LHW and if he can press Davis and get hands on him, I think there's a high probability within the first two rounds that Vinny snags a trip and gets Davis down.

I can also see instances in which Davis might try to try his luck with a takedown and top control if he's confident enough in his game.

Make no mistake, Davis is the superior overall MMA fighter, Vinny's cardio is suspect and his striking is meh, but I think Davis is going to have to stick and move throughout the fight to avoid getting tangled up.
