Dan Hardy wants UFC fight with Matt Brown in April

GOLD COAST, Australia – By the end of a Q&A session with UFC fans, Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy decided he wants to fight Matt Brown.

Brown, nicknamed "The Immortal," recently called him out on Twitter.

Quote:

"I've been very impressed with him as of late," Hardy said. "He had a good run in 2012. Me and 'The Immortal' – we'll test that theory."
Hardy turned down an appearance at UFC on FUEL TV 7 in his native U.K. out of a desire to spend time with his family over the holidays. But a meeting with Brown in March or April suits him fine.

Quote:

"The Immortal vs The Outlaw?" Brown wrote earlier this week. "Apparently this is the fight the fans want. You down for Japan."
Brown was referring to UFC on FUEL TV 8, which takes place March 2 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The other guy to call Hardy out on Twitter and in interviews still gets no love.

Matt Riddle called out Hardy in July following a win over Chris Clements at UFC 149 (the result was later changed to a no-contest when he tested positive for marijuana). Hardy shot the request down, and a second callout met the same response after Riddle beat John Maguire at UFC 154.

Hardy isn't feeling any more open to the fight now.

Quote:

"He's just a big, loud, annoying kid," he said. "And the problem is if I'm training for somebody, I'm spending three months dedicated to that person, and that would be three months of my life I wouldn't enjoy.

"I saw him at the gym. He showed up at Robert Drysdale's, which is where I train in Las Vegas a lot of the time. And he said, 'Look, if you want to go, I've got a piece for you.' And he was like, 'I'm just trying to make a name for myself.' And then he called me out again, so I'm going to hit him with a bar of soap and a sock or something."
Hardy then offered a solution to the problem, suggesting Brian Ebersole fight Riddle (7-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC). Ebersole (50-15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who was sitting in the crowd, responded, "I'll take him off your hands."

Quote:

"There we go," Hardy said. "Brian's going to babysit for me while I deal with Matt Brown."
Hardy (25-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC), a onetime UFC title challenger, now enjoys back-to-back wins inside the octagon after nearly losing his job with a four-fight skid.

Brown (16-11 MMA, 6-5 UFC) most recently earned his fourth consecutive win with a knockout of Mike Swick at UFC on FOX 4.

Sounds like a couple of good fights to me

Stll not a fan of Hardy and his losing streak even with the wins doesn't rank him far above Riddle to call it a babysetting job. If it happens hoping Brown takes it in impressive fashion

I guess Hardy forgot he lost 4 in a row. His last 2 wins are against guys who are ranked just about where he is, outside of the top 20.

Riddle is a little step up for him. To say the guy isnt worth his time, makes me think Hardy is full of himself.

Matt Brown is a great fight too for Hardy. And Ebersole vs Riddle could be fun. Maybe these 4 guys can have their own lil tourney and see who is best among them.

Hardy is quite the pro at sounding like a dick all the time

Getting kind of aggravating how reading these articles of Hardy thinking he's relevant enough to take on much higher ranked fighter. Hardy's last two performances were good, but he should be far away from getting a shot at a much higher ranked Brown. Then again this is the UFC, I should know better....

Well to be fair to Hardy, those 4 fights he lost were against GSP, Condit, Rumble Johnson, and Chris Lytle in his retirement fight. Yea he should have been cut, but that's a tough stretch for anybody.

I don't have any problem with what Dan Hardy said. A win over Matt Brown does much more for him than a win over Riddle. There's also no doubt in my mind that if the UFC asked him to fight Riddle, he wouldn't turn it down.

I don't think Hardy is saying Riddle isn't good enough for him, he's just saying he's not the kind of guy he wants to fight.

Brown has done a pretty job playing the spoiler lately; killed the Thompson hype train and then ruined Swick's come back. He's always fun to watch, should be a good fight with Hardy.

this is what we get when popularity is allowed to dictate a fighters place in their division. A fighter gets some twitter followers, makes a little controversy, or sells a few t-shirts, they're relevant in the sport? A 2-4 in their last 6 fighter should not be picking and choosing opponents. Just be thankful you're still employed, Hardy.
