| Melvin Guillard Not Interested In A Title Run Melvin Guillard Not Interested In A Title Run - FightLine.com Quote:
Melvin Guillard (30-11-2-1 NC) has never won a championship in his 10 year career and says he's fine with it. He noticed that anytime someone wins a title, they end up becoming an afterthought once they drop it. Quote: |
"At this point in my career, I'm not too focused on the title anymore because guys win the title then they lose the title and it's like they end up on a downward spiral," said Guillard to Bloody Elbow.
| Guillard sees himself as someone who the UFC can test the new and younger talent against. Since competing on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Guillard is 11-7 for the promotion. He lost his last fight against Donald Cerrone and will return tonight on TUF 16 to face Jamie Varner. The 29-year-old has never been offered a title shot and isn't planning for one in the near future. Quote: |
"Right now, I just want to keep competing and fighting," said Guillard. "I'll worry about a title when I'm 35 or maybe close to 40. That way, I can win the title, and be close to retirement."

Guillard is just letting us all know that he plans on being on his back for 3 rounds against Varner.

And I don't think you can say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) is a better movie than Animal House (1978); they're different genres. I think they're both examples of great craftsmanship.

For Shizzle? I would have never thought that. I always thought Jamie just had a big right hand but figured Melvin had more techniques n power.

I believe varner actually has pro boxing experience, not sure. Melvin has the speed and power advantage, the wrestling will probably cancel itself out mostly.

Wait......are you saying Melvin's wrestling is on par with Jamie's wrestling?
Before I laugh hysterically and uncontrollably...I want to know if that's what you're saying?

Now don't get your panties all in a twist.

Now don't get your panties all in a twist. | Varner's a much more accomplished grappler, fought higher competition, and has the more technical striking.
Melvin holds the speed and the power advantage but thats it.
I see Varner hurting him, taking him down, and submitting him. Melvin has been outclassed on the feet by damn near everyone he's lost to. It's not gonna change now.
