| Melvin Guillard Now Meets ‘Cowardly’ Jamie Varner at UFC 155 Melvin Guillard Now Meets ‘Cowardly’ Jamie Varner at UFC 155 | 5thRound.com Quote:
Jamie Varner allegedly accused Melvin Guillard of using Vaseline to grease up his body, then withdrew from their lightweight scrap just minutes before showtime due to illness.
Guillard was not only disappointed in not being able to showcase his skills on Saturday night, but also in Varner’s “cowardly” actions. He claims the former WEC lightweight champ is scared, homie, and won’t give Varner another chance to battle him. Quote:
“No, he’ll never get the opportunity to fight me again,” Guillard told FUEL TV. “I think what he had done tonight was very cowardly. I saw the look in his eyes at weigh-ins, I could tell he didn’t want to fight me. So I’ll just leave it at that.
“I’m not gonna sit here and bash the guy. I have a level of respect for him as a person, but as a fighter, I lost all respect for him.”
| However, after being notified UFC president Dana White planned on pushing their bout back two weeks to UFC 155, Guillard was willing to grant Varner another go. Although, “The Young Assassin” warns his boss that he should have replacements warming up in the bullpen. Quote: |
“That’s cool, but I just hope he don’t back out again,” Guillard added. “[The UFC] might want to have some other guys lined up and make weight just in case he backs out again.”

I did think that Varner looked quite frail at the weigh-ins. Maybe it's worth a rematch now we know how bad he was suffering. I wonder if his sickness is a result of the weight-cut, or whether it was something he was struggling with anyway.

I think if Varner's corner really did accuse him of greasing, and then all of a sudden Varner's too sick to fight....I can understand him looking at it that way. Fighters are not logical, it's pretty much the response many give when an opponent has to back out of a fight. It gives them a Psychological edge, at least in their minds....much to do about nothing. I did like how his tune changed after the words "Dana White" was mentioned regarding the rematch...lol. They will fight and somebody will lose....badly. The End.

One thing I know about Varner is that he's not a coward. Cautious when it comes to his body, yes. Coward, no.
Guillard REALLY needs to think before he speaks sometimes. He gets so worked up and just says dumb stuff.

I've always loved watching Melvin fight(even though his groundgame is frustrating as all hell), but it kinda felt as though he looked a little relieved not to have to face Varner that night and when asked, he immediately shot it down, saying he wasn't going to fight him again, until the Dana comment was brought up....
It would really suck for Melvin to have to make another weightcut, as he recently had some issues with that in the Cerrone fight, maybe a CW would be most benefitial to all parties?
