Fuck it, then throw Colton Smith in there with Overeem, since we'd all buy the shit out of that PPV.

You gotta draw the line somewhere. Common sense would tell you that losing to another contender shouldn't get you a titleshot. Chael losing to a smaller Silva shouldn't get a shot against a bigger Jones.

Hell, even Frankie Edgar, who many believe won the last fight against Bendo and is actually moving down a weight-class, should honestly have had a win at 145 before he got the title shot.

Its true H0ss but everything still goes back to money and catering to a different target audience. The casual fans could honestly give two shits about rankings.

Nothing has changed really. The same fans that paid good money to watch Fedor fight Zulu are now clamoring to see GSP fight Silva or Diaz.

It all boils down to:
- Money
- Fighter popularity
- Drama/Controvery

The reasoning might be shitty but still valid nevertheless.

Agree with RD this is a notoriety based fight that will make money. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. I take a little comfort in firmly believing Georges and Johnny will win and then fight after .

Also I rember thinkinng "this is what GSP/Diaz will look like if it is made" during the fourth round of Bendo/Nate. iF gsp IMPLEMENTS THAT NASTY gnp GAME THAT HE USED against Condit I could easily see him TKO ing Nick.

Has to be world class for MMA. GSP's wrestling comes from his speed and feints, which in MMA is much more important then having some NCAA titles or gold medals. It's harder to say with boxing, since you just don't have any really high level boxers trying MMA (seriously at least). Maybe a super technical and high level boxer would do well in MMA if they were well-rounded, but I doubt it. The clinch is totally different, the structure of the rounds is totally different. I think Diaz's boxing is some of the best for MMA right now, but it has shown weakness against solid kickboxers.
