That's a little strong. He does not have one of the worse ground games in the UFC.

You do realize talent does not always equate to success right? With his athleticism, he could be at the top of the division. If he worked on fixing his holes, and employing a smart game plan he could have beat some of those guys he lost too. Instead he goes into every fight relying on his speed and power. He is his own worst enemy.

I would say it depends entirely on what it costs to have him fight. Lets be realistic. Melvin will never be a serious contender at 155. He's a gatekeeper, or a mid-tier fighter at best. If you're paying him gatekeeper money, its worth keeping him. If he's got an inflated price tag, he's very cuttable.

That's been my perspective too. He's fast and has a ton of power. But he's been clipped standing up more than once and he's been submitted a couple of times too...
He looks athletic. Unless we focus on him not taking training seriously and discount the many years he's been in the game, I'd say it's clear that he struggles to get any of the skills of MMA up to an elite level. And that is really what athleticism is about.
