In June 2011, Guillard was on the cusp of sniffing a championship affair after notching his fifth straight win. The lightweight has since dropped four of his last five scraps, three of which have ended within the opening round.

Chances are Guillard will be granted another go, especially when you consider Leonard Garcia was gifted a reprieve after losing his fourth consecutive fight. On the flipside, Guillard is competing in the UFC’s deepest division, which will only get stronger with Strikeforce’s talent transitioning over, whereas Garcia is a featherweight.

In any event, Guillard is now on White’s radar. It’s time to see if “The Young Assassin” can reclaim his nickname.

Not exactly sure what that means...I watched the fight and had it pretty close and a split decision is most certainly not a lopsided decision. Anyway I thought it was a good fight and impressed by Melvin on the ground, I thought for sure if Varner went there he would have his way and choke Melvin out quickly.

Anyway I say keep Melvin, him vs Barboza or Terry Etim would be pretty neat fights I think. Anyone that will stand with him can cause fireworks. I was thinking earlier today that I'd like to see Melvin and Stephens re-match and hope it's not such a "feeling out" type of fight the whole time.

way too much talent to give him the boot, if you can put up with his mouth than his losses shouldnt be too much of a burden he's far more valuable than a jeremy stephens i kinda agree with dana that the game planning isnt exploiting the blazing speed and killer instinct that make guillard unique

Why the fuck did he ever leave Jacksons?

He's explosive, entertaining and has a marquee name, I'd keep him as a draw on the FX PPV prelims, he almost always delivers.

Don't agree with the blame on the Blackzillians. Melvin has a string of losses but to Lauzon, Miller, Cerrone, Varner; they're amongst the highest level of talent he's ever faced. His strings of wins are almost entirely out of the top 10, even when working with Jackson.

Guillard has oodles of talent but has always been lacking in IQ. A clever fighter has always been his kryptonite.

How does he have oodles of talent? Like someone else pointed out whenever he has fought a top fighter he has lost and lost in one-sided fashion. A guy with "oodles" of talent will beat or at least compete with those guys. He is a guy with heavy hands and one of the worse ground games in the UFC. He should be cut to make room for guys that are actually you know, good.

Cut ? No . Keep around for interesting , crowd freindly matches with stand up fighters. Not saying easy fights for Melvin but just stand and bang type fights.
