For once I was thinking "Wow, finally I agree with Dana White" and then he had to say that MMA is the safest sport in the world.....

Not only poker is very dangerous. Everyone knows that chess, ping pong, cricket, swimming, badminton are not safe at all.

When are people going to stop underplaying the seriousness of paper cuts?

We are in the midst of one of the worst paper cut epidemics this world has seen you are down playing the threat our poker players take each time they pick up their hand?

For shame man... for shame

You don't know much about being in debt to loan sharks do you?
Monica Seles...

They blocked out the part where she is stabbed but you can hear it...

...Still, I would say tennis is a little safer...lol

With regards to pro football, throughout my studies on TBI, I'm quite confident to say that almost every other sport is "safer", as the concern is the repeated shots to the head as opposed to the one that actually puts your lights out. In that sense, similar to football, pro boxing is widely believed to be more overtly dangerous than MMA, as boxers absorb so much more consistent damage over their careers.

PBS did a pretty engaging analysis in an episode of Frontline for those interested in a cliffnotes take on head trauma in football.

All that said, I defintately wouldn't put MMA on the "safest" sports side, but I'd hazard to say that the culture of football is more dangerous.

As you guys have stated its going to be interesting in 10-20 years as the Wands, Chucks, Nog, Rich Franklin, Shoguns etc of the world age and see what the long term effect some of those wars/grizzly KO's are. I do like that you don't get standing 8 counts etc in mma but getting shut off with head kicks etc are going to take their toll especially with the velocity some of these guys hit with.
