I was more referencing Eddie having to fight a contender before getting a shot. IMO, Aoki is top tier still and is enough of an argument, just as it is for Gil(who I think deserves dibs)....

Although it looks like he'll be making bank with this deal regardless, but I fear this is going to get messy.
I think it's a matter of bad management representing you or not having better options that gets guys stuck in contracts like these. I'd be curious know just how long Bellator has the right to match offers in cases like his. Any significant time can add up to alot of lost money for these guys who have relatively limited windows to make really good money in their prime like Alvarez is now.

You are right it will get messy before this gets settled, but it also may bring up legal ways that the UFC or other companies can use to make contracts that get around the right to match stuff and free fighters up to move on if they choose.

I'm guessing since all this BS is going on with Eddie that Gil will get the title shot first and once the dust is settled with Eddie he'll get the winner.

IMO after Diaz lost there's not real #1 for the LW division right now besides have a crossover fight with either Eddie or Gil, and i like both those fights very very much.

For a hardcore fan, certainly. But try selling that win to the casual audience. Along with his relatively recent loss to global superstar... Michael Chandler. And didn't he also lose to Aoki before avenging that defeat? We have to think like a promoter at least slightly. What type of numbers would you expect from a PPV headlined by Eddie Alvarez right now? If Hendricks can get screwed out of a title shot after knocking the soul out of numerous formidable UFC names, Alvarez can fight another contender before fightng for the LW belt.

So what does Zuffa do now? Do they just play the waiting game and see how all this plays out in court?

Wow, and here I am thinking that "matching" means to offer the same. Offering a piece of a Bellator show (13 bucks) vs. offering a piece of a UFC show (200,000.00 to 1,000,000.00 dollars). not matching up.

I still don't understand how they can match the UFC's offer. The clause about getting to fight on Fox is a great example. That's exposure to 5+ million people and a good performance would advance the Eddie Alverez "brand" and make him worth more money.

I don't see how Bellator can offer the same exposure.

That's all they can do really without risking being drawn into a lawsuit themselves.

i think what bellator is arguing is the wording of the ufc contract
