On July 26, 2008, Silva won the EliteXC Heavyweight title, with a second round TKO win over UFC veteran Justin Eilers. Silva later tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone, and was suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission. According to Silva's manager, Alex Davis, the positive test was caused by Silva's use of Novedex, a testosterone-booster he takes to raise his low testosterone levels (a symptom of his acromegaly). "He has to treat it", said Davis. "He spends between $6,000 and $8,000 a month just on medicine for it. He needs to be able to keep fighting to make a living. If it's between Antonio's health and pleasing the athletic commission, we have to choose his health."

That is a damn shame Silva has to spend that kind of money on medical treatment a month. I swear the healthcare industry is ass raping everyone these days....ugh
By the way sorry Cat Smasher I didn't know this was already posted 3 pages ago. I guess I did good by posting the video atleast lol.

Re: Novedex and Boldenone: Quote:
It turns out that one of the metabolites of ATD (an oral aromatase inhibitor marketed as Novedex XT by Gaspari Nutrition) will cause a positive result on a doping analysis…it will appear that the athlete has taken boldenone (Equipoise). It’s not “spiked” or adulterated, but the actual compound happens to be metabolized into boldenone (Equipoise) and a boldenone metabolite as well. Again, this does not mean that Novadex XT is contaminated or adulterated, but simply that it converts to trace amounts of a banned substance in the body.
The urinary metabolism of the irreversible aromatase inhibitor androsta-1,4,6-triene-3,17-dione was investigated. It is mainly excreted unchanged and as its 17beta-hydroxy analogue. For confirmation, 17beta-hydroxyandrosta-1,4,6-trien-3-one was synthesized and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in addition to the parent compound. In addition, several reduced metabolites were detected in the post-administration urines, namely 17beta-hydroxyandrosta-1,4-dien-3-one (boldenone), 17beta-hydroxy-5beta-androst-1-en-3-one (boldenone metabolite), 17beta-hydroxyandrosta-4,6-dien-3-one, and androsta-4,6-diene-3,17-dione. The identification was performed by comparison of the metabolites with reference material utilizing gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) of the underivatized compounds and GC/MS and GC/tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) of their trimethylsilyl (TMS) derivatives. Alterations in the steroid profile were also observed, most obviously in the androsterone/testosterone ratio. Even if not explicitly listed, androsta-1,4,6-triene-3,17-dione is classified as a prohibited substance in sports by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) due to its aromatase-inhibiting properties. In 2006 three samples from human routine sports doping control tested positive for metabolites of androsta-1,4,6-triene-3,17-dione. The samples were initially found suspicious for the boldenone metabolite 17beta-hydroxy-5beta-androst-1-en-3-one. Since metabolites of androst-4-ene-3,6,17-trione were also present in the urine samples, it is presumed that these findings were due to the administration of a product like ‘Novedex Xtreme’, which could be easily obtained from the sport supplement market. Copyright (c) 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Source | Translation: Silva actually did get boned by an OTC supplement; and didn't even get the benefit of a steroid; just the stinky metabolite that showed up on his piss test.
Gaspari Nutrition has a history of shady supplements, many companies do. Gaspari sold a lot of shit that was either steroidal in nature, but not yet banned; or prohormone, so that it converted to a steroid in the body.
