Strikeforce drug test results come back clean for 'Marquardt vs. Saffiedine' event fighters in Oklahoma City - MMAmania.com

Quote:
Strikeforce: "Marquardt vs. Saffiedine" drug test results are in from the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission, which today confirmed that all five fighters tested for illegal/banned drugs of abuse after competing at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Sat., Jan. 12, 2013, have all passed with flying colors.

Former welterweight Champion Nate Marquardt, as well as his opponent in the main event of the evening, Tarec Saffiedine, were among those who were put under the microscope, as well as Josh Barnett, Tim Kennedy and Kurt Holobaugh.

Each competitor was screened for drugs of abuse such as cocaine and marijuana, among others, the results for which all returned negative, according to MMA Weekly. Additional testing for performance-enhancing substances such as steroids was also taken; helping to rebuild the credibility of past offenders in "The Warmaster" and "The Great."

But Nate wasn't that great on fight night

Not many gave Saffiedine much of a chance to topple the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran; however, the "Sponge" pulled off the upset, pounding the lead leg of the former middleweight (see what it looks like here) en route to a unanimous decision victory.

That's not all.

The co-main event showcased the promotion's heavyweight grand prix winner, Daniel Cormier, keeping his perfect record (11-0) intact with a total tooling of the game -- albeit ridiculously outclassed -- Dion Staring. "DC," who now joins the UFC ranks like many of his other talented Strikeforce peers, is already booked to throw hands opposite Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7 on April 20, 2013 in San Jose, California.

Good stuff.

The other three main card bouts on Showtime were equally lopsided, with Barnett, Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo Souza all picking up quick submission finishes. "Dream Catcher" and "Jacare" punched their UFC tickets with the slick stoppages; however, the fight future is still uncertain for Barnett.
