| Bjorn Rebney Not Looking To Compete With The UFC Bjorn Rebney Not Looking To Compete With The UFC - FightLine.com Quote:
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney isn't looking to compare his promotion to the UFC or start a ratings war.
"We got to do great shows, put all these different fighters on TV, put compelling backstories and the numbers are going to be what they're going to be," said Rebney to Sherdog. "There's nothing I can do other than put together as good as a show to have any kind of influence."
Rebney stated that unlike the IFL and Elite XC, he's not looking to shoot on the UFC. He wants to put on solid shows, but doesn't view the UFC and Bellator as opponents. Rather, they are two separate companies who have a job to produce quality action.
"It's never been my nature to talk down about the UFC," said Rebney. "We're in the same space. Sport entertainment is probably the most competitive aspect of the sport. It's the nature of the beast to want to make your show better and see better numbers, but I don't look at it from the perspective that we're a competitor to the UFC."

Well, they can't compete so that isn't even a factor to be considered, but with the Eddie drama, I think UFC would consider that a reason to put them out of business.

If Bjorn isn't lying through his teeth, then he's ultimately going to have to be OK with his top guys wanting to make a bee-line to the UFC after they've cleaned out their respective divisions and fulfilled their contractual obligations.

The current #1 challenger in MMA to the UFC is the Viacom-owned Bellator Fighting Championship. Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney was recently asked by Fight Hub TV's Marcos Villegas whether he would consider selling to the UFC at some point.
"Never in a million years would I sell Bellator MMA to the UFC," replied Rebney definitively.

Does Bjorn own a big enough piece of Bellator to stop Viacom from selling to the UFC?

It's only a matter of time before Zuffa is running the MMA monopoly. Bellator will eventually cease to operate just like any other organization that has crossed Dana.

Professional sports are one of the few business where a monopoly is usually beneficial. All the top atheletes under one roof, competing with one another.
