Contrary to what some people think, I'm not a Sonnen hater. I actually dont dislike Chael's personality, he has an enjoyably witty sense of humor, I just greatly disliked him when he started insulting Brazilian culture and hiphop culture in hyping up his fight with Silva.
My reaction to this article was really from the point of view of one of Vitor's coaches. If I were his coach, I would've interpreted this as a bullshit gesture from Sonnen to try and look tough in the media: he could blame their inability to fight on contractual obligations to fight Jones, thus avoiding looking weak.
To put it simply, I would've called what I perceived as Sonnen's bluff. Sonnen could potentially win the belt from Jones in 4 months, so if Vitor could get the hype started now by calling the bluff, he could potentially shit talk his way (ike Sonnen) into an immediate title shot. After all, Dana has given 2 title shots to undeserving hype-able shit talkers, might as well give another undeserving shot to their love intrest, Vitor Belfort.
