We'll continue to have this argument every time somebody gets busted for PEDs. The reality is, unless we are blood testing every fighter anonymously at random from the time they sign their contract, the fighters will dope. Plain and simple. Sure you might have one or two here and there that aren't doping, or they are using some kind of pain killer that is banned, but very few and far between. Threaten them with random (and often) blood testing (including HGH) and they will all lose 15 lbs of muscle and we'll probably see 30% less KO's. Hell make it part of their insurance clause. If you get caught using PEDs you become un-insurable by the UFC fighter insurance, so any medical bills you incur come out of your own pocket. That'll turn some heads.

As far as testing for marijuana I agree it's stupid, but just like some laws and company policies people in this country have to follow, they are the rules non the less. And it's Diaz's responsibility to know those rules and obey them if he wants to compete. Personally I can't see any real benefits to PED's with the exception of better looking Abs. I mean most guys who get popped have lost their fights. Skills still win fights. But I think it's a question of honor and integrity for the sport and the spirit of Martial Arts it'self, and I have come to the conclusion that only a LIFETIME BAN would really work. If someone uses a steroid they should be banned for life, with no appeals. That's the only way we can better insure a cleaner sport. Of course there will be a bigger market for barely legal supplements that give fighters similar effects, I just don't see how you can regulate that......

"I don't call the fighting in my films 'violent', I call it 'action'. An action film borders between fantasy and reality. If I were to be completely realistic in my films, you would call me a violent, bloody man. I would simply destroy my opponent by tearing his guts out. I wouldn't do it so artistically." ~Bruce Lee |

I can see you point when you are talking about stuff that is pretty cut and dry like sticking a needle in your arm but it isn't always like that. | For constants like steroids, HGH, and high test levels you can. That's why I said temporary suspesnsions for OTC stuff - the stuff that is legal for some time then found to be illegal. Steroids are steroids - always illegal/banned. HGH is forever banned, is it not? And if your test levels are raised beyond space fuck, banned for life. And I explained myself for if a doc prescribes someone it for after surgery, car accident, etc. You wait and wait till you are totally healed before you sign to fight, i.e. subject yourself to testing. I realize they need money, but fighters coming back too soon that get caught, well they came back too soon. To eliminate this, the ultimate deterrent must be getting caught. With so many guys testing positive, getting caught obviously isn't that much of a deterrent. So increase the fricking penalties. Risk of being banned for life or losing insurance permanently as someone said will actually deter people from the temptations of these shortcuts. A fuckin 6 month, nine month suspension? Lots of guys don't even fucking fight in those timeframes anyway...

| Tavares disputes results of failed test - Fighters Only Quote:
“I am surprised with the suspicion of doping announced by the UFC!” he says. “In 13 fights have submitted seven times to anti-doping tests and I've never been accused of any illegal substance use…I would never be able to use something that was not allowed.
“My medical team is working on an investigation of any supplements or medications used in and out of Brazil in recent months that might have given this false positive result on the test.
“The analysis is being done in specialized laboratories, by researchers at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, and the medical procedures are also being investigated.”
“I have been a succession of facts that want to shake up my career, such as deferred fights, injuries, etc, and I was prevented fighting last year. But I am confident that my career will not be shaken by this obstacle. Now we give our rebuttal to the UFC and we await results of the analyses so that measures can be taken.”

He's always been shredded, but not so jacked.
