The guy has 7 "of the night" awards. 3 of them were victories. 2 of those 7 awards were also "Fight of the Year" winners.

People call him boring, yet he has a higher percentage of exciting fights than most other fighters. So what if some of his more exciting matches come from showing a lot of heart while taking a beating?

I think people have been criticizing him so much lately because he's had a couple of poor showings and they didn't meet the high expectations people have of him.

I would say more so that he's a very good gate-keeper, that people seem to expect to be a world beater. I love watching Clay fight, but I dont expect him to win any belts any time soon.

Yeah, it's amazing that he got this far with his limited skill-set/potential.

I guess I'm in the same boat as you all and I think Mendes takes a decisive UD. It will be interesting to see him fight somebody standing up for a while though (somebody not named Jose Aldo), as opposed to someone he can just take down with ease.

I have always criticized him, ever since the mac danzig fight. And you kind of prove the "Guida being an exciting punching bag" idea.. 4 out of his 5 fight of the night honors were given to him because it was exciting watching him get beat up. His fight with gomi, where he got submission of the night, was the same stint he pulled in the maynard fight.. except thankfully we only had to suffer through 2 rounds of it.

This is probably what I hate most about Guida.. he does his little shake to get his hair flipping all over the place and people say he's scrappy and staying busy.

We got to see Edgar/Mendes sometime in 2013, just seems inevitable. And itd be an AWSOME fight lol.

I got Mendes as the #2-3 FW, the dudes a beast and has destroyed a good list of awsome FWs. Guida will really be put to the test here, and if he wins hes arguably next in line imo.

BUT Mendes should take this one way or another, I got him by UD. They sure arn't taking it easy on Guida, curious to see who Edgar gets next.

You make it seem like they were a one sided beating. The Tyson Griffin loss was an amazing back and forth fight that could have gone either way.

He was actually handily beating Roger Huerta in a fight of the year, until he got caught in the RNC in the third.

The Diego fight is the closest he came to being an "exciting punching bag", but that is because you only seem to remember Diego's amazing assault in the first half of round 1. Guida actually rallied back and lost yet another close split decision in the end.

Even the Henderson fight wasn't one-sided. Although Benson won all three rounds, Guida was very much in the fight from beginning to end.

A couple of bad showings don't erase the exciting fights he has put on in the past.

Saying "His only exciting fights are the ones where he gets beat up..." shows that you are either ignorant when it comes to his fight history, or another ignorant "Just bleed" 'UFC' fan.

I'm not arguing about guidas skills, I'm saying that the only exciting fights he is in are the ones where his opponents force it to be exciting. If guida is controlling the fight, it will be a boring one.. when his opponents take control of the fight you have hope for excitement.

Well, I plan on becoming ignorant of his future fights. As for his fight history, you can pretty much go down the line and it will a be a 50/50 on whether the fight is decent/exciting versus extremely boring..

My opinions on some of his fights
Hatsu Hioki - boring
Gray Maynard - fucking boring
Benson Henderson - exciting.. cause he got whooped
Anthony Pettis - mediocre/boring.. I liked seeing anthony work off his back, but guida just defended and didnt do anything, which was pretty boring.
Takanori Gomi - painful to watch until it was finally ended.
Rafael dos Anjos - dont remember this one except dos anjos hurting his jaw and tapping out
Shannon Gugerty - don't recall
Kenny Florian - exciting cause kenny schooled him
Diego Sanchez - exciting cause diego beat him up
Nate Diaz - this was actually a really good guida fight
Mac Danzig - Lamest fight ever.. Guida got outclassed standing and couldn't get any take downs so he held mac on the cage for all 3 rounds.. and somehow got the win.

blah blah blah.. Feel free to throw more tapout insults my way because I don't like guida.

The Gomi fight was "painful" to watch? The Pettis fight was boring? And you only found the parts where his opponents were on the offensive exciting? No credit to Guida at all, huh?

Also, Dos Anjos didn't hurt his jaw, Clay Guida hurt it for him.

But I guess you were too bored to notice, lol.

Well, I guess since this is an opinion-based argument, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm sorry you feel that way, maybe someday you'll change your mind.
