“Shogun” Rua and Lil’ Nog Both Interested in Do-Over of Epic Clash

Possible Rematch Alert: “Shogun” Rua and Lil’ Nog Both Interested in Do-Over of Epic ‘Critical Countdown’ Clash | | Cagepotato

That is of course, according to UFC President Dana White:

(Shogun vs Evans) is a fight, yeah. That is a fight that could happen, yeah. But I keep hearing this thing that Nogueira and Shogun want to fight each other, they want to do the rematch. I don’t know how that makes sense for Nogueira, but that’s what they want, that’s what I’m hearing they want. Far be it from me to not give somebody what they want.
Let’s just act like that last sentence never happened for a moment and focus on the potential matchup at hand. Rua and Nogueira first met back at PRIDE FC – Critical Countdown 2005, where Rua emerged victorious by way of unanimous decision in a fight that became an instant classic amongst fans of the sport. The rematch (and a TUF: Brazil coaching gig) was first suggested by Nog back in August, and while circumstances have surely changed in the time since, we can’t imagine there would be a lot of resistance to the idea from a fan’s point of view.

Nog is looking better these days.

I like both fights for shogun, Evans and lil nog. As for Lil Nog, if I were him I would pick a fight against someone coming out of a win.

I don't know why, but whenever someone is matched up with Lil Nog, I'm never really interested. He's a great fighter and all, but he just seems to lack personality.

Been waiting for this since 2005

Nog takes it this time...

Prime shogun always beats Nog, but imo Shogun is past his prime and has taken a lot more damage than Lil Nog has at this point.

Sure, why not? Rua might be coming off of a loss, but a win against Shogun is still a win against Shogun.

Their first fight is the one that got me interested in MMA and made me a big Shogun fan. I would love to see a rematch

This would be a very good fight. Hopefully Shogun wins.

Yeah it has been a tradition lately. Fuck what makes sense and what makes no sense. Looks that nowadays it is enough to just ask for something and you will get it.

Ive always liked lilnog but i honestly dont know why people are praising his last win it was ugly. Shogun beats lil nog again and this time he finishes him. Shogun is a natural 185er and sometimes he pays the price for fighting big 205ers but lilnog is too slow and stagnant. Rua mercs rashad and lil nog anyday of the week.

Kimbo> Rampage 02-15-2013 12:16 PM

Yes, the Rashad win was not very eventful.. But A win over someone like Evans means something... He only lost to Jones and Machida would could easily be the #1 and #2 LHW's.

im very surprised at how Nog won... No one would have been shocked if you told them Lil Nog could out strike and outpoint Evans if the stayed standing... but Rashad has always been a smarter fighter, doing what it takes to win... even if he turned it into a very boring fight. Im surprised he didnt look to hold Nog against the fence or just repeatedly go for takedowns, like he has in other fights... but once he fell behind 2 rounds, he had no choice but to look for a finish... which he relly didnt do, for some reason. Very odd fight.

Shogun is not a "natural MW" by the typical definition we come to know in the fight game... a natural MW is someone who can make the weight without cutting it... Shogun is a smaller LHW and would be best suited for MW. If he got his body fat down and really made a push im sure he could make it easy. He would be a decent sized MW, around the same size as some of the top guys...

At various points in time shogun may have been a natural LHW, not needing to cut weight... but over the past few years, We've heard him talk about his weight cut and not wanting to go down to MW, when asked.

A example of a fighter fighting at their natural weight would be Frankie at LW or Lyoto at LHW (although sometimes he does cut)

Dont know about that... If Lil Nog and Shogun rematched after their first fight or when Shogun was UFC champion... he would have gotten killed, but now Shogun doesnt look so good... Also if Nog fought the Shogun who fought Forrest1 or Coleman2, id take lil nog... Hell, not even sure Lil Nog couldnt beat the shogun who fought Hendo.
