Brazilian welterweight Paulo Thiago is the latest addition to the UFC’s return to his homecountry in May, as reported by TATAME earlier today. The event, known as UFC on FX 8, will be headlined by a battle of middleweight contenders between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold. Thiago’s opponent is yet to be confirmed.
Regardless of who’s on the other side of the Octagon come fight time, the 32-year-old jiu-jitsu specialist will have to deal with the pressure of possibly being released in case of another defeat. Thiago has lost four of his last five bouts, including a two-fight losing streak on the hands of Siyar Bahadurzada and Dong Hyun Kim. His last win was an unanimous decision victory over David Mitchell at UFC 134 in 2011, which also happened in Brazil.
“This is a super important fight for me. Losing is not an option”, Thiago told TATAME, ”I’m going to give everything I got.”
