| Well they haven't announced Silva/Weidman yet. What are they waiting on? The results of UFC 158. GSP beats Diaz like most expect, his next challenger is obviously Hendricks. But Hendricks looses, there is no clear #1 contender for the WW title. Yes yes, Weidman is the best candidate for the next shot at the MW title right now, but some feel he could use another fight before challenging Silva (especially factoring in his injury layoff). Factor in the rumors of the UFC getting into New York in the next few months, and you've got Dana White and Co. with a money boner at the thought of GSP/Silva headlining MSG. I think the biggest fight in MMA history against arguably the best fighter in UFC history on a stage like Madison freakin Garden would be too much for GSP to pass up.

| Condit Ready for Hendricks: "He's Called Me Out in the Past, This is His Chance to Try to Back That Up" | MMAWeekly.com Quote: |
“Fighting Johny Hendricks is the perfect opportunity for Carlos to earn another shot at the UFC welterweight title,” Condit’s manager, Malki Kawa, said in a statement to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday night.
| Quote:
“While I was disappointed to hear that Rory MacDonald is injured, I am glad that the UFC was able to find a strong replacement for the fight in Johny Hendricks,” said Condit. “He is one of the toughest welterweights in the world, and has quickly risen up the ladder in our division.
“We are similar in that we like to stay active and aggressive in our fights, so this should be a great fight for the fans to watch.”
Condit is never one to back down from a difficult challenge, however, and Hendricks promises to be just that.
“He’s called me out in the past, and now is his chance to try to back that talk up. I’ll be ready for him.”

I wonder if Hendricks tries and duplicates GSP's success and take Carlos down. Not a guaranteed way to beat Carlos but Carlos is way more technical on the feet than Johnny is.

Unfortunate this is the second fight in a row Rory pulls out of due to injury. His win over BJ was huge but I want to see him beat a young top dog before I'm fully sold on his skills.

I think things have changed. If you'd asked me even a year ago if Georges would go full on diva and duck the #1 contender for a vanity fight with Diaz, I'd have said you were craxy, that he's always been a straightforward, bring-the-challengers-as-they-come type of fighter and champion.
Obviously, that's sadly changed.
I've never been a big Hendricks fan, but I'm pulling for him in this fight. By simply taking it, he's shown more heart than Condit or GSP have recently.
rh | I'd have said back then you were wrong. GSP is a businessman first and foremost.

Hendricks should have to beat Mark Munoz to get a title shot Quote:

GSP has by far the best takedowns amongst the top WW's... Carlos could easily have the worst TDD amongst the top WW's, along with Diaz.

Originally Posted by KevoOnTheRadio Aw I see your point. Do you feel Hendricks can get this fight to the ground? | Easily... Hendricks is one of the more decorated wrestlers in MMA, we saw some of it earlier on in his career, but he a good wrestler no doubt... Anyone who can hang with Kos like he did has good wrestling... His fight with Story was odd, doubt we'd see a repeat of that if they re-matched...
but the problem is that once you get Carlos down he is very dangerous off his back. always looking for subs, to get up or reverse... Someone like Fitch, Askren, or even Kos could easily play the takedown, top control, to UD approach on Condit imo... We really dont know how good Jon's ground game is, but no doubt he can get Carlos there...
I see him trying to stand with Carlos.... Which is very risky. Carlos is solid technically and will come after him with his hands, kicks, knees, etc... but Jon has serious power... beyond guys like Kos or Ellenburger... He flattened Fitch and Kampman in seconds... the distance he covers and the way he gets his full body behind his shots... Reminds me of Fedor or Hendo in a way. |
