I can agree with that, but it's still the other guys fault for not making something happen. He is the one that is losing so in my opinion the lack of action is just as much his fault if not more (not necessarily talking about Lavaar on this one because I remember him throwing some bombs from the bottom).
I think were on the same page, just explain myself further. I believe a fighter can be winning and on the bottom. Lutter Silva comes to mind, but the bottom fighter shouldn't have to get the tap out to be judged as winning.
I hate when the top fighter is on defensive just smothering a move and the judges deem the top guy winning.
Next time someone does something like this, Dana should cut them as an example...like Clay Guida
The whole Clay Guida thing is just strange, going from an exciting fan favorite to a guy no one want to watch fight anymore. Guida used to consistantly move forward and grind out his opponent but now he just dances around like the UPS guy on speed...
Seen one of these reruns on tv the other night and I wasnt sure if it was a Clay Guida fight or Mad TV's UPS Guy skit.

I actually don't know anyone who likes Leonard Garcia...or him fighting because he gets gift decisions. I don't even remember the last fight that he "won" that he WON
Oh, I'll agree with you there. The Nam Phan fight comes to mind. The gifted fights made me dislike him too but he's not a judge so its hard to hold it against him. Shitty calls by the judges aside, he always puts on a show.

Yeah, fight like Grice and you'll suffer from early-onset of dementia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. One definitely doesn't want to have too many fights like that or they'll have a short career.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The long-term effects of MMA competition has not been well-studied, and one must think that with Gary Goodridge's dementia and Chuck Liddell's speech patterns, it is likely that the effects are more drastic than the spiel that Dana spews regarding safety. Soon the longitudinal effects will be more well known, and less fighters will fight like Grice or at least referees are unlikely to let fights go on like that.
Machida/Hendo was worse to watch than Schaub/Johnson.

It doesn't matter if fans like him. Only matters if management likes him.
When's the last time you saw a towel thrown in the Octagon?
Corners have the power to stop a fight too. They don't care about their fighter enough to stop the fight after three standing KOs.
That fight was awesome but I was in dismay as well as excited while watching it. I couldn't believe that noone was stopping the fight.
These refs are inconsistant as fuck. There needs to be a SECOND referee either staring at the screen or watching the fight from the outside. This referee would have the power to call for a instant replay review by both referees for fouls or stoppages.
It is evident from all of these mistakes that human error by the referee can result in permanent damage to a fighter.
UFC keeps exciting fighters whether or not they win. Look at guys like Dan Hardy and Leonard Garcia. They can have really bad losing streaks but it doesn't matter because people like watching them fight. I don't think anyone liked watching Schaub.
I agree. Winning a boring fight wont mean job safety any more than losing an exciting one. So I don't think we will see an epidemic of boring fights because of the recent cuts. Cuts or no cuts I think Schaub was going to take that fight to the ground as Lavar showed no resistance. That being said, I hate fighters who stall on the ground, which Schaub did do some of, but he also did almost submit Lavar.
