I think everyone is misconstruing the reasoning for the UFC giving Aldo a shot at the LHW title with a victory. Beating Pettis to get a LHW title shot has nothing to do with rankings or earning a shot or anything like that. Dana is sending a message to Aldo and to the other title holders that if you play ball with the UFC, you're going to get rewarded. Championship fights earn fighters a lot of money. Champion vs Champion fights earn even more money. Aldo has the chance to make even more money by potentially doubling his championship fights (with PPV and gate %, along with other bonuses) all by playing along with a softly earned title shot.
GSP/Silva/Jones should all take note of what happens with Aldo and see how much more they can earn if they play along with the UFC superfight idea. Dana willl likely be mentioning Aldo's name a lot more in interviews to build him up over the other champions who are reluctant to go for the inter division fights.

So, wait...
...does either guy get the next shot at LW with a win, regardless of the outcome?
To clarify, does Pettis still have an immediate chance at a title shot at LW if he wins the FW belt, or is he expected to stay at 145 and defend?
Because if he's given the same chance as Aldo--meaning, beat Jose for the BW strap and then go on to face Bendo for his next immediate bout--he'd already have secured the same deal that Aldo is just now getting.
Meaning he'd be getting that same deal without ever winning UFC gold, without ever defending UFC gold. I really like Pettis--I actually like him more than I like Aldo--but that's a shortcut that I don't know he's earned. zuffa would be treating a contender more respectfully than a dedicated champion and p4p great.
And that would be bullshit, in my opinion.

I bet Lamas is contemplating doing very harmful things to Dana right about now....

Aldo has already earned a LW shot if he wants it imo.
But I like the idea of Aldo/Pettis, and I like the idea of Aldo going to LW with a FWbelt to challenge for the LW belt. Sounds good to me.
Im with RH, also wondering what going to happen with Pettis win or lose. He was close/next for a LW title, losses to Aldo at FW, where does that put him at LW if he moves back?
And the even more fucked up question, where and what does Pettis do if he wins??

Here is yet another f'd up question...what if Aldo successfully defends against Pettis, and then goes up and takes the LW belt from Bendo?
Does that move him ahead of Georges and Anderson for that coveted #1 p4p spot? Quote:

I dig it...as long as Aldo relinquishes the FW belt if he wins the LW belt. He should wait until after he wins to do it, though, just so he can say he held both...but I kind of think Pettis may beat him so we will just have to see how things play out.
