In all fairness, Machida did get the title shot on somewhat of a short notice after Rashad was injured. I don't think anyone else was even close to a title shot at that time.
Nearly all the divisions are looking bad at the moment with undeserved title shots or just shallow divisions.
HW: We have Big Foot getting a title shot after getting dismantled by Cain 9 months ago. Then again, he at least deserves it more than the ones I mention below. Not giving it to him may cause either Struve/Hunt (both of whom haven't beat one top 10) or keeping Cain on the shelf for a while.
LHW: Sonnen, someone who hasn't won at 205, lost his last fight and just because he stepped to the plate on short notice once, is now getting the title shot. Hendo was obviously ready by April given that he just fought.
MW: Nothing is happening because Anderson and camp are twiddling their thumbs.
WW: Diaz, who lost his last fight and got suspended for a year is getting a title shot over one of the most deserved contenders in any divisions in Hendricks.
LW: No complaints here.
FW: Seems like a line-up of undeserved contenders in Edgar (lost 2 fights in a row; doesn't matter how close), and Pettis, over guys like Lamas, Jung and Swanson who have done much more in their own division. Looks like winner of Aldo/Pettis will get the LW title shot, which keeps the division on hold even longer!
BW: No complaints here. It's too bad that they don't have anyone really lined up.
FLW: Not a deep enough division but I'm happy with Moraga getting the title shot to keep the division growing.
W: Again not a deep division, but looks like they're hiring more women, so in time I'll have more faith.

Does that move him ahead of Georges and Anderson for that coveted #1 p4p spot? |
If that were to happen, Aldo would've won 17 fights in a row, of which the last 9 would've been title fights (7 defences including Pettis). Plus, he would be holding two belts at the same time, and would've beaten the current LW champion in Bendo, the current #1 LW contendor in Pettis, the former LW champion in Edgar and the former #1 LW contender in Florian. Plus, in terms of skillset, he has better tools in his arsenal than GSP and Anderson, and his only glaring hole seems to be his cardio.
That would be very deserving of the #1 P4P!
