Completely different set of conditions Imo.
Jones title shot
- Easily hypeable young "undefeated" contender with a good list of dominant finishes.
-3 weeks short notice fight against the champ
-no other viable contenders available to replace Evans besides Jones
-Ryan Bader & Jones were the hottest prospects at 205 at the time, and Jones mopped the floor with him.
Machida 2nd title shot
-Got Obliterated by Shogun after winning a very controversial decision victory in the first fight
-Lost a lackluster decision to Rampage
-Retired a damn near 50 year old man from MMA
-Got a gift title shot on 7 weeks notice against Jones of a 1 fight win streak.
-Got chocked unconscious by Jones in 2 rounds
Machidas potential 3rd title shot/rematch
-Beat Ryan Bader, who had just been finished by Tito Ortiz of all people, and since losing to Jones has only beaten a horribly flat Rampage, Jason Brillz, and the Janitor.
-refused a short notice title fight rematch against Jones
-Won a very lackluster decision victory against Dan Henderson
My reasoning is, Machida already got one gift Title shot due to being in the right place at the right time. So i cant view him as deserving of a rematch,
a 3rd title shot, when not only was it Jones' lowest PPV draw but there's potential contenders still in the mix.
I know you didn't ask to know my reasoning, but I felt like fully detailing it for some reason.
