Default Dana White: GSP Wants to Retire Nick Diaz After Diaz Chased Him Around Hotel

Dana White Says Georges St-Pierre Wants to Retire Nick Diaz | MMAWeekly.com

Quote:
Everyone has been wondering what Nick Diaz did to get Georges St-Pierre so rattled that he personally called UFC president Dana White to ask him for their main event fight at UFC 158.

Diaz has obviously tried everything under the sun to press the buttons to get under St-Pierre’s skin, but it’s well documented that it’s nothing new to the Canadian champion who has been called out, criticized and insulted by almost every opponent he’s ever faced.

Now White has revealed the real incident that caused the rift and it goes all the way back to 2011 when Diaz called out St-Pierre at UFC 137 following his win over B.J. Penn.

White was a guest on the Jim Rome Show on Wednesday and he told the story about how Diaz literally stalked St-Pierre around the event’s host hotel looking to fight him, and it obviously wasn’t about finishing their business in the Octagon.

“Nobody has talked about this, I haven’t said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really starts calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. Georges thought he was going to try to fight him in the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and see Nick Diaz,” White explained when speaking to Rome.

“Like at the last fight where he said all that stuff after his last fight when he said all that stuff about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight, like trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off.”

White downplayed the reality of Diaz actually fighting St-Pierre in the hotel (although Diaz has fought an opponent in a hospital before), but said the incident caused the Canadian to snap and work very hard to eventually get a shot at the Stockton bad boy.

“I don’t think that would ever happen, but Georges St-Pierre felt like it was,” said White. ”Georges has said publicly many times when he was younger he used to get bullied. That’s what got him into martial arts. He just has this crazy thing about bullies and he thinks Nick Diaz is a bully.”

St-Pierre has faced criticism over his last five fights for all of them ending in decision, but from the sound of things, he’s focused on not only beating Diaz but obliterating him in the Octagon.

“Georges St-Pierre I talked to him last week, he said ‘Dana, you have no idea what I’m going to do to this kid, I wanna make him retire’,” said White

St-Pierre gets his chance on Saturday night in Montreal at UFC 158.

Diaz is the worst kind of bully, so I can understand GSP's mentality.

Not uncommon for someone who got bullied as a kid to take up the arts, and with GSP's ability we see the result. Everybody needs a reason to train and that exact reason has been a strong driving force into adulthood for many.

I actually hope he retires. I spent some time with him on a few occasions (via Gracie Fighter and once after UFC 118 in Boston) and this is only one of his interests. Triathlons is also not the only other. His bro and him do a lot to give back to the community and I'd rather see him in a coaching and BJJ role because he seems happier doing it, from the way he speaks about it.

I think he'd be a terrible coach. He's not exactly an articulate speaker and he is also a flake. Who the hell wants an unreliable coach who murmurs and babbles when he is in front of a group of people?

I can't wait to hear Nick's/Cesar's excuses after GSP whoops him.

1. Wrestling is for pussies. He is scared to stand with me.
2. Fuck this man. I just wanna get paid, and I don't wanna deal with this grappling shit.
3. (insert "bullshit about how his anxiety problems caused him to crumble on the biggest stage" here)
4. something about greasing
5. any one of the other 4 plus a whiney incoherent retirement rant.

I can understand why GSP is so pissed. I had a similar childhood dealing with bullies and shit and got into martial arts as well. After almost 30 yrs of Kyokushin and 4 yrs as a grunt in the Marines I have absolutely zero patience for bullies, douche bags and assholes as well. Hope GSP smashes the shit out of Diaz.

I'm getting an incredibly strong impression that this is the last time we see Nick on the big stage of the UFC. I see him getting embarassed on Saturday night and the UFC cutting their losses on such a massive liability.

While he's a draw and a "character", his attitude issues have become a major hinderance to further success for he and the company, as he acts as though the rules don't apply to him.

Unlike, say a Rampage, Nick isn't on that level of stardom to consistently pull this BS and his atmosphere of entitlement and irratic behaviour, which has been endlessly fed and facilitated by Cesar Gracie over the years, coupled with what I believe to be a pretty strong social disorder, has created a dysfunctional human being that cannot comprehend this level of media scrutinty that UFC stardom entails.

I think Cesar Gracie has done Nick a massive disservice over the years by treating this behaviour as normal.

Once Diaz gets merc'd on Saturday, I think he'll be a freelancer. Not worth the time, drama, money and constant headaches....
