| Mir: Cormier 'lacks finishing ability' Mir: Cormier 'lacks finishing ability' - Mixed Martial Arts News Quote:
“I pretty much know the guy. He has extremely strong, efficient wrestling. I think he throws his hands pretty fast and without abandon. I don’t think he’s the most technical boxer in the world, I don’t think he even thinks he’s the most technical boxer in the world. He’s definitely not JDS, but who is? On the ground though, it really showed me, let’s face it, if I had the same guy on the ground fight would have ended pretty quickly. He wasn’t able to put the guy away through a lack of finishing abilities, through a lack of finishing moves. So that’s one thing that actually surprised me,” said Mir.
“I thought he couldn’t finish Josh because of Josh’s abilities, but then I realized ‘No, he doesn’t really have much finishing ability’. He can catch you with a punch, let’s face it, every heavyweight over 200 pounds has that ability to finish a fight if he catches you. But you got to have the ability to finish with the submission, you know definitive ground and pound where you actually finish somebody off against the cage and it’s menacing. Not just finally the referee’s like ‘Well, you know, I guess the guy’s had enough. You really can’t put him away let me help end this fight for you.’”

Sorry Mir, finishing ability doesn't mean submission ability.

As soon as I saw this, I was intending on typing, "Yeah Frank, and of your 6 career losses, all six have been TKO finishes, STFU! Cormier is undefeated for chrissake!"
Damn, Mir is such a powertool.
Worst part is, we all know that during the fight against Cormier, Goldy and Rogan are going blow Mir to know end, overhyping and overrating him as having some of the best BJJ in MMA, which is of course, absurd.

There's 25 guys in the division, and most of them have little to no BJJ pedigree.
Nog, Nelson, Werdum, Mir, Gonzaga... That's basically it.

Even when the hyperbole used by Rogan and Goldy is strictly HW, guys like Gonzaga and Werdum are worlds ahead of Mir, even considering MMA adaption and there's a massive disparity between Werdum, then Gonzaga, and then the rest of the HW division.
Follow that up with HW fighters not in the UFC like Barnett, Monson and Cruz who have better BJJ/grappling than him as well. Is Mir's BJJ really, really good at HW, YES. But they sell his BJJ as one of the best and that's not accurate. He doesn't have the grappling cred that a Werdum or Gonzaga have and when you look at BJJ guys in other divisions(Vinny, Jacare, Roger Gracie, Maia, Yahya etc), Mir's resume can't hold a candle to their caliber of BJJ.
My issue is with the perception Rogan and Goldberg give to the casual fans, that suggests Mir is one of the best submission fighters on the planet, and my response is, he's a very good submission fighter for HW(where I wouldn't even rank him in the top five), but they overrate the shit out of him.
Looking at his record, the best technical opponents he's submitted are against a past his prime Nog and Traven, the rest are pretty meek in BJJ.

I used to be a fan of his until I realized what an arrogant ass he is. His BJJ is good for a heavyweight but he continually leads the way in over-valuing his abilities. A legend in his own mind. Gatekeeper with an even bigger mouth and outsized ego.
