if this would happen than you know this is going to hurt spike. They only usually ahve tuf guys anyways ,but now it would be almost exclusively tuf guys and young up and comers b/c HBO would get all the big name fights.

I don't think it would hurt Spike at all. About 95% of the fights on TUF or UFN involve a lot of guys making their debuts, TUF guys, or lower tier guys hoping for a break and exposure. Every once in awhile you get true big deal fights that hold a lot of meaning and involve big names, like Loiseau vs. Tanner, Silva vs. Leben, Sylvia vs. Silva (too many Silvas), Sanchez vs. Diaz. The fights on Spike would be the equivalent of ESPN's Friday Night Fights series, while the HBO fights would involve more matches like PPV undercards and swing bouts, as well as a few truly intriguing matches for titles or title shots. Meanwhile, they could put more marquee matchups on PPV, but they probably won't. The PPVs would be a marquee fight, a few intriguing ones, and a bunch of filler. No multiple marquee fights a night like UFCs 52, 59, and 61.
But either way, it's a lot more exposure for MMA, and for the UFC in particular. They will now be able attract more talent to their organization, play to bigger venues, but inversely, will have no excuse to not pay their talent more.

Yeah, therein lies the irony. I would love to see guys make more money, but when some UFC rookie is about to make about $2000 just for showing up, while I don't even make that in a month, well, that puts things in perspective and makes me care less about how much they get paid.

I agree. Also, the big names are making their fair share of dough. Both Hughes and Gracie made more than a million each off of UFC 60's purses and ppv shares, not to mention whatever they got for sponsorships, etc. Granted that was a marquee fight and both are big names but I just don't think that the money criticism flies when you consider what a significant portion of the fighters make.
Also, they will make more money as the sport grows. No doubt early football players knocked the crap out of each other too and made no money for it, but that was because no one cared. As soon as MMA collects a large audience that cares, the money will follow suit.

plus the make money from there sponsorships.special apperances etc. It's like Dana said.Rich,Hughes,Chuck,Tito among others have been with the company for a long time. They're not stupid if they could get a better offer else where I'm sure they'd take it.Dana must be doing something right.
