Sounds good that we are getting more and more MMA organizations across the world. I don't know what the MMA scene in Africa is but I would assume it isn't that big yet. So this definitely should give more guys an opportunity that they wouldn't be able to otherwise.

That’s the whole idea behind this venture, development as opposed to profit. There was a very successful organization here in South Africa, the UFA, but internal politics driven by greed killed it quickly. I love MMA that’s what’s the driving force behind us. So, lots of small tournaments, give the guys a site that they can post their profile’s, make them feel appreciated and promote the sport.

I’ll let you know how the tournaments go LethalStriker!!!!
All the very best

Maybe there should be this kind of thing in the US & UK.

It would at least give people the chance to break into mma.

Damn good idea.

I don’t know what its like I the US or UK, but if its anything like here in SA, then let me guess, lots of smaller promotions popping up, promising the world, not delivering and are simply in it for the quick buck??? People want the big time and limelight and aint prepared to put in the grunt work. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a charity organisation or apposed to making money, all I want to do is break even for now, that’s good enough for me. I truly believe in the philosophy of hard work is eventually rewarded. But I must admit, the passion that drives both my partner and I is that of 100% love for this sport.

I don’t mean to preach or rattle off, but here is a bit of what we intend to do for Submission/Grappling/MMA here.

The concept of our company is that of growing, developing and promoting the sport on a local front. We in South Africa have some of the best junior and light weight boxers in the world, and yet, they haven’t a clue as to what MMA is. Boxing is loved in the Townships, and is often regarded as a means to a better life. We are third world, with first world cities, and at the end of the day, some of the illiterate and impoverished people who really want to make a better life for themselves and their families turn to sport. Usually Soccer, Boxing or Athletics.

It accrued to me that the best way to get this across was to create an amateur league, which I am currently in the process of doing. Unfortunately, we do not have our own MMA independent governing body, and MMA in South Africa falls under Kickboxing. The fortunate part is that the Chairman of the Professional Kickboxing Council and I are on a good footing and I am a registered and licensed “PKC” promoter.

I worked as the Backstage Coordinator in the UFA (Ultimate Fighting Association), controlling all the camps and fighters. I built up an exceptionally good rapport with the majority of the major gyms and athlete. When the company was active, the responsibilities of putting the bouts together fell on Brad’s shoulders. He used his “Best Guess” and gut feel to do so. He was never off point. We had some battles of note. But, they never implemented a ranking system, and I feel that was unfair. This was fine for the handful of experienced fighters, but my question was, where does this leave a person who was capable and wanted to go pro?

Brad and I just recently started this company with the philosophy of “Growth First”. The majority of fighters in SA are white, and nothing has been done to market this to the majority of our population.

Our ultimate goal is to create a platform where anyone, no matter what experience, age, colour or creed can compete in a fair environment. Build them as athletes and launch them on both the local and international stage.

Logistically speaking, all I want to do is tap about a minimum of 1% of the local population which works out to about 4.4million people. I believe that this can only be accomplished through dedication, determination and honesty. Also, this is the reason that I’m not charging spectators of our smaller events. The overhead costs are minimal, and the fighters have to pay ZAR30 (U$5) to enter. That goes towards the booking of the venue, the advertising, the medals, trophies and the other administrative costs. Even if we get between 30 and 50 participants, there is no way that covers a third of our costs. The other reason is so that we can invite would be sponsors to our events. Get the interest, get them involved.

I’m sorry guys, I’m rambling.

Chat to you all later, have a fantastic day guys. Oh, and it was on my website, but again, I hope that you all had a very special Independence Day.

Wishing the crew of the Shuttle Discovery, their friends and family God Speed.

And a big shout out to all the troops from all over the world that are defending democracy and couldn’t be at home. Our thoughts are with you all.

Great news with regard to the establishment of the Amateur MMA League. We will be meeting with the president of the PKC to discuss the final Rules and Regulations this week. It’s amazing what the power of “Word by Mouth” can truly do. I have been elongated by emails and phone calls over this past weekend. I just want to thank everyone for showing us such amazing support. I will post the final R&R on my site as soon as the are finalised. Keep the emails coming, thank you all… To keep informed, check out this link within the next few days: http://www.nhbsouthafrica.co.za/news.htm

All the very best,

Dave

PS, Yip LethalStrike, Trevor is from Cape Town. Very nice guy.
