Since this thread started with Rogan and Silvia, I have to stress how much I HATE Tim Silvia...the guy has genetics on his side. I'm 5'11" and I'll kick the shit out of a midget, does that make me a bad ass? NO!!! If I was 12 feet tall, I would be going to a 3 round decision over Assuerio Silva too..LOL. And he talks like he's some fucking UFC legend or something.:banghead:

yeah you can't teach height and Sylvia relys on his height too much ,but he's improving his striking game more than just the usual jab.Now he's uses kicks and other strikes and not relying completely on his height with his jab. He's still young and improving ,but there's no way he'd beat Fedor. On Fedor's worst day and Sylvia's best day.Fedor would still win with a brutal KO in the 1st.

The job of an announcer is to get over the talent you're announcing. Tim Sylvia just retained their World Heavyweight title against the best challenger at the time they had for him, it's their job to get that over as something big. No doubt Joe Rogan went too far, but to the fans who don't follow the sport as close as us, it made Tim Sylvia seem like the absolute real deal - and that's something you want to do (especially with your champions) in a company when there's competition elsewhere that you don't fight with due to politics.

I agree. I understand that a certain amount of cockiness is to be expected in professional athletes of any sport, but it does seem like Silvia's ego is unreasonable. It just makes me dislike him. He'd be so much more likeable of a fighter if he had some humility. That and he looks like the Michelin man.

Sylvia seems like a cool guy and I think a lot of it is to hype up fights.I have no problem with smack talk before a fight. It's smack talk after a fight(like the shit Tito pulls)that bothers me.

It's not just the smack talk that Silvia does though. I think everyone does that, and it's just a part of the game. Sylvia has an ego that gets ridiculous at times, like when he was interviewed about his last fight with AA and he claimed that knocking Arlovski out 'was easy' and that he really didn't think much of it. He's just kind of a douche at times.

never ever in the history of sports has a commentator ever used hyperbole or exageration to hype up an event.
never ever has an athelete run his mouth off challenging someone that isn't in his league.

Very tongue-in-cheek, and no one is saying that this is anything new. In fact, I think a couple of people have made mention of the fact that in general this is a common thing. The point is that some people feel like Silvia may take it too far, or that it's not just talk. That he may really be ignorant enough to believe that he is so far superior to Fedor, etc.

name one UFC fighter who has went over and dominated in pride after a losing streak, please!!!!!
