If you study Shamrock closley you can easily tell the guy is punch-drunk....and any fool knows you can only get hit in the head or face so many times before it starts causing a permanent lasting effect.
This fight should have never been made in the first place...because Tito could have easily killed Shamrock if he wanted to.
Tito never wanted this fight, tried to get out of it, and thankfully got it over quick without hurting Shamrock too bad.
This was a fight that Dana wanted just to make money for Zuffa regardless of the dangers to Ken...knowing damn well doofus old Ken's ego wouldn't allow him to turn it down....and Tito had no choice but to agree to this fight if he ever wanted to get back into the UFC and get a chance to get his old belt back.
This is how Dana does business...money first and fighters last. |
#1Taz - I think I am correct in that you are not a Doctor - and neither am I, but my layman's observations are similar to yours. It really does seem that there is some neurologic impairment going on with Ken Shamrock. I think the way that his body/head reacted when getting hit by Rich Franklin would trouble Doctors. He did the same think, albeit for a split second against Tito. It just seems he does not 'react' properly when getting hit. He is also a click or two behind with everything, which may or may not be related to being in his early 40's. Don't think that behind closed doors the UFC management didn't talk about this before the fight. I wouldn't rule out past amphetamine abuse either as a reason why he is so easily irritated by trash talk. I have no knowledge of, nor have ever heard any rumors of Ken using amphetamines, I am just making an observation based on what I have read about abuse of it and my knowledge that use of stimulants by bodybuilders is pretty widespread. I hope the guy salvages whatever respect he still has and steps back and just coaches at the Lion's Den or wherever. It's sad to think that this guy thinks that he is still the most dangerous guy in the world. He has become a cartoon, strutting around like a bodybuilder and scowling like a tough guy for every photo. A Randy Couture he is not. Believe it or not, i don't dislike the guy, I just think it is pitiful and absolutely painful to see his "I am gonna teach you a lesson, Tito, etc" act all the time. he should try to become "The World's Most Professional MMA Fighter". Every time the guy has gotten hit in his last 2 fights i shudder like I did when I saw Larry Holmes punch Ali at will in their fight.
