this is an excellent thread.....this is one of the main reasons I support the ultimate fighter show,it gets it more in the mainstream and allows fighters to be paid more when they have exposure.

Yeah..but the guys got a few more bucks and a little tv time...while Zuffa made more and more millions.

Dana gets a salary plus a percentage and bonuses from his sweet deal with Zuffa which makes him pretty uncaring and ruthless towards the fighters(which is just what they wanted)when it comes to doing anything to make truckloads of money for Zuffa....because the more The UFC makes - the more Dana makes.

It is hard to believe that only a few years ago he used to be a manager for fighters and was being paid to protect them from getting screwed over and jerked around.

But then greed will do some wild and crazy stuff to people like Dana sometimes.

So welcome to the reality of UFC corporate business practices everyone...this is how the suit-wearing Zuffa guys in those tall buildings really do it.

You got a point with the money in against the money out.

As regards to the money being paid to the fighters he used to manage, wait until you see the figures. I'll bet that Tito made nearly twice as much as Sylvia, Arlovski & Shamrock.

I think the figures for Tito's return showed that he could have paid every other fighter that night from his purse.

Wanderlie is going to get MEGA bucks for his fight with Chuck (as will he) so don't expect to see huge fighters making up the undercard!!!

But with all that said Dana has to be in it to make money. So love him or loath him, if he don't make money there's no UFC. So as much as I don't particularly like him, I do think he's perfect for the job.

This thread I started is somewhat relevant to the outrageous distribution of mma's (our) money. It is written from a slightly different perspective than fighters purses, although it is one and the same problem imo, and the potential fix is applicable.

Unfortunately, the thread was avoided like the plague by almost everyone - some of you may find it a good read though.

git.

Question:

Is there any kind of insurance or anything or does Zuffa pay for medical expenses when a fighter is injured??
And if a fighter breaks an arm or leg or is seriously injured in another way, (like Frank Mir) and is unable to fight for an extended period of time, and unable to fight or train, is he covered financially?

I just found this about the UFC 61 fighter payoffs today and I don't know how reliable it is...but here you go:

*Tito Ortiz ($210,000)
*Ken Shamrock ($100,000)
*Tim Sylvia ($60,000 w/$6,000 withheld)
*Andrei Arlovsky ($90,000 w/$9,000 withheld)
*Frank Mir ($26,000)
*Joe Stevenson ($12,000)
*Jeff Monson ($10,000)
*Drew Fickett ($6,000)
*Yves Edwards ($8,000)
*Josh Neer ($6,000)
*Dan Christison ($5,000)
*Josh Burkman ($5,000)
*Joe Jordan ($4,000)
*Hermes Franca ($4,000)
*Chieck Kongo ($3,000 w/$900 withheld)
*Anthony Perosh ($3,000 with $900 withheld)
*Gilbert Aldana ($2,000)
*Kurt Pellegrino ($2,000)

Only sponsors I believe. It also depends on their contract.

He did. He gets a salary I believe. The contract has nothing to do with his fight purses.

That six-figure contract is not exactly what it appears to be...it is a conditional contract spread out over 3 years and it is dependant partly on the fighter's ability to fight, his marketablilty to sponsors, his ability to stay clean from illegal substances, and his ability to comply with a standard moral clause.

Just like any other contract...there is a lot of stuff in the fine print that is not released to the public.

And part of it is a clause that prevents the fighters from discussing it with anyone outside of Zuffa.

Typical Dana tactics....as usual.

What's the "withheld" part of the purse?
