I was a bit upset when I first saw the fight. BUT I was sitting in a sports bar and couldn't REALLY see what happened. I've since watched (and re-watched) the end of that fight and I think it was a solid call.
The first elbow ROCKED Shamrock badly. The second elbow KNOCKED HIM OUT! You can see him actually SHUT HIS EYES after the second one. He was then hit with four or five MORE elbows AFTER being knocked out. Dean saw this and made a solid call.
The fans were booing and reacting the EXACT SAME WAY that most in the sports bar were. They couldn't see and were pissed that the fight was over so quick.

personally i feel the fight was stopped too soon... shamrock was moving his head from side to side so i dont think he was out... ive seen him take alot more than that and not get knocked out... you can see that his eyes are shut when he gets hit with the 2nd elbow? are you kiddin me what kind of point is that? when ppl get hit in the face most ppls eyes close, its a reaction by the body, the eye is trying to protect itself...
i feel the ref did not give proper time to allow himself to attempt to do something to better himself... the use of verbal warnings def would have been appropriate... ive seen many refs barking statements at the fighters while they are engaged in the ring... ive seen fighters taking worse beatings and been in worse positions then shamrock was and the fight was still allowed to continue.
in competition things can change in an instant so its hard to say that oh the match woulda been over in 5 more secs... you and I dont know that, in a heartbeat matches can change hands, you all know that...
its a shame that shamrock has gotten older and fallin off in his game. his age is a huge factor to him not being successful as of late... with all the present circumstances and information at hand its hard to say taht shamrock would have come back or can even beat tito in another fight, but anythings possible if you want it bad enough.
i hope shamrock does an interview soon it would be interesting to see what he has to say and what not.
oh and as a side note check out UFCs webpage and shamrocks fighters bio... i find it interesting that for ken shamrock photos they have pictures of Tito Ortiz.... hhhmmmm hahaha comical

Exactly.
But the point was too late you end up like McClellan. Too soon, you walk away & fight another day.
I never want to see anyone end up like some of these boxers cos the ref stopped the fight too late.
In the fight between Branden Lee Hinkle & Jeff Monson at UFC57 (I think) Monson put Hinkle to sleep, but a few seconds later when he woke he was furious that the fight got stopped & couln't believe the decision. The ref has to stop the fight even if your out for a second otherwise you end up a cabbage (not like Wes Correira!)

seriously im a shamrock fan but he has to wake up and evolve with the sport. he did this same shit with tito last time and again with franklin. lay back and let them punch you silly is not a gameplan. insult to injury he kinda just looks up at them the whole time. herb made the right call. bt thats just me....

I've always had respect for Ken Shamrock. 42 years old and he's clearly in superior shape. As people get up in age you have to train harder to achieve the same results. But being 42 will make it difficult to compete at this level. Why not have an old timers match, sort of like MLB's old timers game. Seriously, this is not an insult to Shamrock. Shamrock vs Gracie. Something to that effect. I beleive fans would love to see something like that. Once in awhile on the pay per views UFC could have an old timers match. Old school guys who still want to fight, but have them fight eachother. As the human body get's older, believe it or not your endurance can get better,( this can happen between mid 30's and mid 40's) however your reflexes and explosiveness decrease. This makes it dangerous for Ken or anyone in their 40's to compete with younger fighters. He feels like he can go all night, but he's getting rocked out. I have a bit of experience with this. Anyway, old timer fights. Run with it UFC.

It's a good idea, but I think you would have to be more strict with stopping fights....you get a couple of 45-50 yr olds in there, you probably open yourself up to sanctioning problems
