Ya know, I am so sick of reading about professional wrestling on this site. I say this with no disrespect to anyone and what they like or what they watch, but damnit, can we keep the real sport of MMA and the "entertainment" seperate? Let's be real for a second: First, professional wrestlers are athletes, they are strong, quick, and agile. I am sure that some of them have actual wrestling backgrounds (very good ones in fact), but to compare scripted scenes written by soap opera writers to a real fight with real fighters in a real situation is totally unrealistic. The only reason these guys are "calling out" MMA is because MMA pay-per-views are starting to cut into the wrestling PPV numbers, so any way that they can find to keep their fans from jumping ship to a real sport, they are gonna do it. I know, if I don't like reading about PW in these threads, don't come on the MMA site or just don't read it. I am just so surprised by the number of people who want there to be some crossing over of the two topics. Peace.

Well, to be fair, anything that produces some interesting discussion is fine with me. I don't think anyone is trying to equate pro wrestling with MMA, but it's fun to speculate on who you think could genuinely make it in MMA.

They dont have any punching power and they gas on the walk to the ring/octagon? They basically lean against each other and try to titty slap their opponent out of the circle.
edit: I forgot the dreaded wedgie aspect of sumo.

see, thats the missconception, sumo is all about strikes , kicks, using your weight to your advantage and leverage.......see the similarities to what is seen in mma these days?
the sumo wrestling matches are nothing more than traditional contests that were started a really long time ago to teach sumo students leverage and power

the sumo wrestling matches are nothing more than traditional contests that were started a really long time ago to teach sumo students leverage and power | You dont win by forcing your opponent out of a ring or touching the ground in MMA. But, for curiosity's sake, exactly what strikes and kicks in particular? And the similiarity is reflected by the fact that Jujutsu is within the same "family" as sumo. You've also pretty much described the very basics of fighting in any event that involves grappling, regardless if you want to refer specifically to any style.
