the show is a terrible concept, based on stereotypes. bullshit chinese everywhere, movie ripoff concepts. somehow, TKD and Karate all fit under Kung Fu labels? way to insult any traditional martial artists. further more, they point spar in body shots, further making themselves look like fucking fools.

i spent 3 years doing kung fu, and all the practical shit i learned real basic punching, and strategy. flanking, centering, and sprawling.
the hand speed i learned is nice, but i can throw 5 punches under a second, none of them will knock anyone down. plus, the drills for important shit like sprawling were so lame that i could take pretty much everyone down with a double leg except the top couple guys, without ever wrestling or even watching MMA or wrestling.

I saw this lame show last night. Some TKD dude fought some big titty karate blonde. It didn't even look like they had any training at all. Their kicks and punches were pathetic.

I only saw the end so i have some questions. Are these supposed to be people who've trained for a long time and accomplished something in their particular art? Or are they people who have been training for a couple months and got on the show?

To be honest I've not seen the show, but are they promoting it as mma?

If they're just putting martial art against martial art you can't compare it to mma. It's like putting a wrestler in against a boxer & complaining that the boxer has no takedown defence.

However if it is things like judo verses karate, why?!?!?!?!?

Everyone saw what stand alone martial art is dominant. If there's betting odds put your money on the bjj guy!!!

It's actually very weird because it favors the striking arts more. It's point sparring, where you get points for contact. But you can't strike the head or the hips etc. I haven't watched an entire episode so i'm not exactly sure what the scoring areas are.

It seemed like they were figuring it out as they went along because they had a discussion on the hip strike and the dude got a warning for it.

none of the taekwondo people are WTF aka olympic style fighters. The sparring is a joke. I have trained in taekwondo in alaska or 19 years and laughed my ass off last night when i saw this show. None of the people on there are good and there techniquies are horrible.

and about the fancy movies... i never use them in a match. Showing off, or in movies or demostrations its ok because it gets attention. But thats it.
