I'm looking into buying a seccond gi. I'm constantly washing my Gameness gi because I usually train Mon/Wed, or Wed/Fri. One question for you guys. Is it a faux pas for me (a white belt) to buy a blue, black or red gi? I wouldn't think it would be but I thought I'd ask before I drop the cash.

I do the same thing, that's why I ordered a Howard. It's a pain washing your gi 3-4 times a week.


And about the color, there is no universal rule. It has more to do with your school and the way they look at such things. Some schools could care less as long as your attitude is good, others insist on white gis only and no patches.


I would say to talk to your instructor or another student. It's becoming more rare anymore than anyone really cares, short of you showing up in a red gi with purple polka dots, but it's best to be safe. You don't want to be that guy that shows up in the only colored gi in the academy.



What brand gi are you going to order, out of curiosity?

Many other students have blue gi's so I doubt it's an issue, I just havent noticed any white belts with colored gi's. Im looking at an Atama. This one in particular: http://www.atama-kimonos.com/product...9380_RT8-1.jpg

I like the way the patches look. They also have a blue one with embroidered USA and Brazilian flags on the shoulders.

That looks pretty good. Post here and let us know what you think of it after you've worn it for a while.


Lol, and I think I have the other gi you're looking at. Blue, with the flags on the shoulders. It's been my only gi for more than a year now, and it hasn't shown any wear. I would highly recommend it. Atama makes good stuff, though they are a little on the pricey side.


I ordered a gi about a week ago now, a Howard Combat Kimono.

Have to add some patches to it (http://www.howardliu.com/catalog/acc...es/patches.htm) but it's supposed to be a damned good gi, and it only costs about $50. I will post a review once I've worn it for a while.
