| New Techniques?
Hey guys, i was wondering, is their any new submissions or techniques made?
The only recent one I heard of was the wicked triangle. Edit: Variations are good to, like if you know a new arm bar shout it out.

Very few techniques are truly new. A lot of them have new names and get more attention, but like the old phrase goes "there's nothing new under the sun."
The only technique I can think of that might be considered truly new would be the gogoplata, as supposedly invented by Nino Schembri. But that is at least 10 years old I believe. Even things like Eddie Bravo's twister have been around for years in catch wrestling.

Is the fist in the throat one new? | I understand. What I am saying is that there are next to no techniques that are truly new. No matter what name they have. Everyone has two arms, two legs, and one torso. There are only so many possibilities.
And I would be willing to bet that the 'wicked triangle' is not new. In fact, I would put money on it. There is no guarantee that someone somewhere hasn't used it before. Many moves are created by different people at different times, indepenent of each other.
Lol, and no, the fist in the throat one is not new.

Popular opinion usually says: Rare = New (see the Gogo or Twister). By this formula your best bet to find "new" submissions is to look up grappling arts that are less common such as catch wrestling.
The day someone finds out a way to do a Boston Crab in MMA I bet a lot of people will call it a new sub Me and my buddies still just call it "The Ultimate Pwn" though

New techniques nowadays are just "new" or "different" ways of doing something.
Invisible brabo
D'arce choke
Sniper Guillotine (might have a different name, but that's what I've heard. Marcelo hit it in adcc 2007)
Monoplata - Marcelo's submission
Octupus guard (I don't think it really warrants a new name, but it's from Eduardo Telles)
Von Flue Choke - (From the ufc, very cool choke Jason Von flue used from side control)
I'm sure there are "new" things that come up all the time, everywhere. The Japanese are like Jiu-jitsu scientists when it comes to different ways of doing things. As more people pick it up, more stuff will come up.

Agreed. This is true with anything. The more minds working on something, the more ideas will come out.
As BJJ/MMA gets more popular, there are only going to be more and more brains thinking about it. It's natural that new things come about.
That being said, we all only have two arms and two legs. There can only be so many motions. A lot of 'new' techniques are really 'recycled' techniques with new names.

I am stealing these pictures from another forum, but I did come up with this technique independently.
A training partner and I were messing around before class, talking about the gogoplata and kind of poking fun at it. I had the absurd idea to try it from the mounted position.
It seemed retarded at the time, and though maybe technically valid it was just too strange to consider. And then one random day a few weeks or months after that, I was rolling with a new student and almost literally fell right into it. Messed around with the setup for it, and came to actually like it.
I came across someone else who had posted the idea just a few weeks ago, and was like "hey fucker, you stole my idea." Either way, he has pictures and I don't, so I will use them.
