Gray Maynard vs BJ Penn

I am a big fan of Frankie Edgar. He has beaten some pretty impressive fighters to date. Then in his last fight, he got beaten by Gray Maynard quite convincingly. You don't hear much about Maynard, but the guy is one hell of a fighter.

Do you guys think that Maynard would have a shot against Penn?

Maynard is also huge for 155, he made Edgar look small and weak. He has a good style for Penn, a big wrestler with good stand up... but is he ready for Penn?? HELL NO.

He needs to win a couple more fights if he want's a shot at Penn, he's a little behind on that line right now. After the winner of Huerta-Florian the one person that really comes to mind is Aurelio, he's a bad match up for anyone, including Penn.

Please there is noone except maybe Kenny Florian that can last against BJ Penn,and Penn kills kenny in 3. Maynard is not on his level ever.

After Penn destroys the winner fo Florian-Huerta........he's going back to 170 for the maga rematch with GSP......

Hopefully Penn-GSP II this time next year.

I'm a big Aurelio fan, and I'd love to see this fight...

...but ultimately, I think Penn picks him apart standing, and has too good of TDD to let it go to the ground if he doesn't want it to. And even if it did, it would be fairly even on the ground. And a huge win for fans.

You're crazy if you think Kenny has a better shot at Penn than Aurelio does. Sure Kenny might have better striking but Penn would just take him down, with Aurelio Penn will have to stand, and that James Toney jabbing thing he pulled on Sherk isn't going to work on Marcus.

Maynard is a good fighter but is not a BJ's level and imo isn't ready for BJ.
BJ by sub imo.

Are you saying Maynard will never be on Penn's level. That is pretty silly to say man, Grey is very new to MMA, and trains with Penn sometimes and Randy. Like i said in the other thread, Grey is doing everything right to be better.

And I really hope you are not saying Kenny will last the longest against Penn because that would be the funniest thing i have ever read.

I am starting to like Kenny, but what does he have that he can threaten Penn with.

Penn has better striking, better bjj, better judo, better wrestling, better chin, more power, he is just a much better fighter.

Kenny would be lucky imo to make it out of the first round, and that isn't a knock against Kenny, its just Kenny really has nothing to offer Penn.

I mean really, what is Kenny going to do. He can't take Penn down, he can't out strike him, he can stop Penn from taking him down.

The only thing Kenny can do is prey Penn doesn't hurt him.

Kenny or Huerta would be lucky to make it to the second round with Penn.

As for Marcus, Penn whoops on him. Penn will beat him standing, i mean shit Clays weak ass stand up was able to keep Marcus mostly at bay.

Penn just keeps it standing, making Marcus pay, and on the ground i don't think he has that much to worry about because i really don't see him subbing penn. Not saying Penn subs him either. This fight will be fought standing.
